Police believe Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy, was likely abducted from her Arizona home.
A spokesperson for the Pima Country Sheriff’s Department tells Page Six that investigators believe the 84-year-old — who has been missing since Sunday — was “taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night.”
“That includes possible kidnapping or abduction,” the spokesperson adds.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CNN Monday night, “This is an elderly woman in her mid-80s who suffers from ailments… she couldn’t go 50 yards.”
He added that in 50 years on the job he has a “gut feeling” Nancy was abducted, explaining that “something they told me about that scene made me believe there is more than just a missing person.”
Nanos told CNN, they hope she’s still alive and “time is of the essence.”
When asked if there was evidence she was hurt, Nanos declined to comment.
Nancy was reported missing from her Tucson area home Sunday around 11 a.m. when she failed to show up to church.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, she was last seen Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. when she was dropped off at her Catalina Foothills home following a dinner with family.
Authorities are currently treating her disappearance as a crime.
“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, and we’re asking the community’s help,” Nanos said in a press conference Monday.
“[Nancy] did not leave on her own,” he continued, explaining that they believe the “circumstances on scene […] are suspicious in nature.”
Nanos described Nancy as “sharp as a tack” and noted that she “isn’t somebody who just wandered off” due to her age and “physical limits.”
The situation is especially critical since Nancy needs vital daily medication to survive.
The “Today” host, 54, is set to drop out of hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony for NBC, sources told Page Six.
The mother of two was due to be in Italy for the start of the 2026 Games on Friday — where she was set to co-host the ceremony alongside Terry Gannon — but likely won’t be there, sources said.
A spokesperson for the Guthrie family told The Post in a statement, “We can confirm this is a missing persons case, and the family is working closely with local law enforcement. If anyone has any information, please contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900. The family is grateful for the outreach, thoughts and prayers.”
