The Seattle Seahawks have announced some team news ahead of their NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up to host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, January 25, in the NFC championship game. It’s been quite a journey for first-year quarterback Sam Darnold and second-year head coach Mike Macdonald as they’ve led this team to the No. 1 spot in the NFC and NFC West.
“Kind of, honestly, break down the game as it’s going,” Macdonald said on Monday, January 19, of prepping for the team’s meeting with the Rams. “Kind of tell myself the formation, what they’re doing, what’s the situation. Kind of take an academic approach to it, I guess.”
Both the Seahawks and Rams are in the NFC West, and Macdonald says he likes to see the NFC championship come down to these two. “I just think it’s cool how great our division is,” Macdonald said. “We really wouldn’t want it any other way, honestly.”
So, the Seattle Seahawks hold the No. 1 spot in the NFC, and that means they’ll host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Expect the crowd at Lumen Field to be loud. Now, ahead of this crucial game, the Seattle Seahawks have made an announcement about five of their players.
Seattle Seahawks Make Team Announcement
On Monday, January 19, the Seattle Seahawks announced that five players were selected to the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-NFC Team, and two of them were also named to the All-NFL Team.
As for the players, receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and defensive tackle Leonard Williams were named both All-NFL and All-NFC, while cornerback Devon Witherspoon, punt returner Rashid Shaheed and punter Michael Dickson were named All-NFC.
While all of the players had a banner season, Smith-Njigba’s year has been especially sprinkled with honors nad highs. He led the NFL in receiving yards at 1,793, the eighth-most in a single-season in NFL history, according to NFL and ESPN research. He was also named a Pro Bowler and All-Pro this season and was crowned the first player in NFL history with at least 75 receiving yards in each of his first 11 games of a season.
Smith-Njigba also had nine 100-yard games this season, marking the most in the league and the most in a single season in franchise history. That’s not to mention his numerous franchise records.
Congratulations for all five winners. People in the know around the NFL are noticing that the Seahawks are here to stay.
Los Angeles Rams Ready for Seattle Seahawks Showdown
Speaking with reporters on Monday, January 19, Rams head coach Sean McVay talked about how pumped Los Angeles is to head to Seattle and take on the Seahawks.
McVay said it was going to be an incredible “atmosphere, an environment,” and that, “We’re very excited about it. Those are the moments you feel the most alive as a competitor and we got to go handle it against a freaking good football team. But wouldn’t expect anything less in the NFC championship if you expect to advance to a Super Bowl.”
Speaking to reporters in his own press conference, Macdonald emphasized that his team is ready. “I don’t think I’d been standing here right now talking to you guys if our team hasn’t decided to play with that type of effort and that’s really all three phases,” he said.
