The Seahawks have re-signed Drake Thomas to a two-year, $8 million contract
It’s safe to say that, after winning Super Bowl LX, things are going quite well for the Seattle Seahawks. Sure, the team may have lost offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to the Las Vegas Raiders, but there’s reason to believe that this team can continue competing for championships for years to come.
Of course, in order to do so, the Seahawks are going to have to put together a strong body of work over the offseason. And even though the team is enjoying its Super Bowl win, it has some tough decisions to make on which players it wants to bring back for the 2026 campaign. Ahead of free agency, Seattle made a big move involving starting linebacker Drake Thomas that could have a big impact on the team’s free agency plans.

An undrafted free agent who latched on with the Seahawks in 2023, Thomas has improbably become a key piece of the team’s defense. Working alongside Ernest Jones IV, Thomas was part of one of the more effective linebacker tandems in the NFL, as these guys played a big role at the center of Seattle’s championship-winning defense.
In 2025, Thomas won a starting job out of training camp, and he turned in a stellar campaign. The undersized linebacker suited up for all 17 games, racking up 96 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one interception, and eight pass deflections. Simply put, Thomas’ ability to diagnose what opposing offenses are doing before they do it helped him make up for his lack of size at one of the most physical positions on the football field.
With restricted free agency looming for Thomas, it seemed clear that he was going to earn a nice new deal this offseason. The Seahawks always were going to have the inside track when it came to re-signing him, and sure enough, they managed to find common ground with Thomas before free agency even opened, as he put pen to paper on a two-year, $8 million contract on Thursday afternoon.
“The Seahawks and starting LB Drake Thomas have agreed to terms on a new 2-year deal worth $8M base with a chance to make $9M, sources say,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “With 96 tackles and 3.5 sacks as a first-year starter, Thomas cashes in with a deal done by agent Jay Courie of MGC Sports.”

Thomas certainly isn’t the most conventional linebacker in the league, but he’s a perfect fit in head coach Mike Macdonald’s scheme. The fit made sense, and with Thomas being a restricted free agent, that made it easier for the front office to bring him back. Preventing him from even hitting the open market helps, as there’s a chance Seattle saved some money by getting this done before it had to.
The Seahawks still have some big decisions to make on their own players, but keeping Thomas around is a huge win for a defense that figures to carry over the majority of its starters from the previous campaign. This deal will come with bigger expectations moving forward for Thomas, but as he proved in 2025, he’s more than capable of continuing to star for this defense over the next two years.
