The Seattle Seahawks are heading to the Super Bowl, but there’s a dark cloud hanging over the franchise in a potential sale.
It’s all smiles in the Seattle Seahawks‘ camp, as the team inches closer to Super Bowl LX. The event is set to rock San Francisco on Sunday, February 8, with the Seahawks going up against the New England Patriots in what’s shaping up to be quite a showdown.
But, amid all the excitement, there’s a dark cloud that’s looming over the franchise. There’s talk about the Seattle Seahawks being sold. This comes from the 2018 death of owner Paul Allen, whose trust requires the sale of assets to give to charity. Allen’s will required his estate, managed by his sister Jody Allen, to be liquidated for charity. So, the NFL has reportedly been urging the sale to comply with rules surrounding individual ownership.
So, the question is, will this sale actually go through? Also, if it goes, who will be the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks? It’s something that’s keeping some Seahawks followers up at night, because the unknown is often scarier than the known.
On Monday, February 2, an update surfaced about the possible sale of the Seattle Seahawks, and it’s not a great one for those who want to keep the team under current ownership.
Will the Seattle Seahawks Be Sold?
Dianna Russini of The Athletic is reporting that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says it was his understanding that when Allen died, the team would be sold.
“I think when Paul Allen passed away that the team would eventually be sold…” he said, adding, “the team will be sold and will be Jody’s decision.”
So, there you have it. Goodell’s comment indicates a sale, and he gave no timeline. So, heading into the Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots game, there is uncertainty.
But, that doesn’t matter in this moment. Let’s live in the moment and enjoy the team’s trip to the Super Bowl.
Sam Darnold News Ahead of the Super Bowl
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was slated to participate in the Pro Bowl on Tuesday, Feb. 3, but he obviously dropped out, due to being in the big game. So, on Monday, January 26, the Seahawks announced that Jared Goff from the Detroit Lions will take the place of Darnold in the 2026 Pro Bowl events.
Darnold ended the 2025-26 season passing for 4,048 yards, notching 25 touchdowns and having just 14 interceptions, with a 67.7% completion rate, according to NFL research.
Darnold was all smiles after the NFC Championship win. Speaking to reporters, Darnold praised his teammates, stating, “It’s great. It’s great that I feel that support not with only their words but just with how everyone treats each other in the building. There is a lot of respect that goes around the building. Everyone respects the work we all put into this great game.”
Darnold added, “I’m just happy to be a part of this team, this group and this coaching staff. I’m really happy to be here, happy to be in this position. I’m just going to continue to do the best that I can to put this team in positions to win football games.”
