Paddington presents Boong with best children’s and family film

Paddington has presented the Bafta for best children or family film to Boong.

Before he handed out the gong, the star of the West End musical version of the children’s story said:

Mrs Brown says me giving this award is something of a first for Bafta, the first bear to present a Bafta.

I’m also the first presenter to get marmalade all over a Bafta. I was going to lick it off, but apparently that is not very good manners.

He added:

I’m meant to open the envelope but it’s not easy with paws, but bear with me. The slightly sticky Bafta goes to Boong.

Irish actors Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley – who are both nominated for their roles in Hamnet – were photographed together at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, as were Hollywood couple Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons.

Buckley is tipped for victory after proving unbeatable so far through the awards season for her performance as Shakespeare’s wife Agnes Hathaway – historically known as Anne – in Hamnet.

The big-screen adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s award-winning novel about the family life of William Shakespeare and the death of their young son, helmed by Chloe Zhao, broke the record for the most nominations for a female-directed film in Bafta history, with 11.

The nominations include best film, outstanding British film and best director for Zhao.

Mescal, who plays Shakespeare, is nominated for best supporting actor, while co-star Watson is nominated for best supporting actress.

There was a real mixture on the red carpet this year…

It is no longer just the A-list that attend the prestigious awards ceremonies after being nominated for their film success from the past year.

There has been a growing trend in reality stars and influencers receiving invitations to the event and rubbing shoulders with Hollywood’s elite at the celebration.

Among the unlikely attendees at the EE BAFTA Film Awards this year, which were hosted at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, were Lottie Tomlinson, Vogue Williams and her husband Spencer and Maura Higgins.
