Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Layla Taylor came out as 'gay and bi' and revealed she is dating a woman

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Layla Taylor has come out as ‘gay and bisexual and is hinting at a new same-sex romance.

The reality TV star, 25, revealed she has been dating a woman just months after her breakup with her boyfriend and over a year after finalizing her divorce from her ex-husband.

‘I’m gay and I’m bi and date women and men,’ she shared on an episode of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast released on Monday.

She also revealed she is currently ‘talking to’ a woman, who she said had made the first move by ‘liking’ one of her recent Instagram posts.

Taylor did not reveal the identity of who the woman is, but she described the individual as ’emotionally aware’ and ‘very patient.’

‘She’s just been very understanding and letting me take this at my own pace because it is just still foreign to me and it is so new,’ Taylor said.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Taylor for further comment.

She later added that she has been drawn to the woman’s ‘level of understanding and just being there for me.’

When asked about why Taylor decided it was time for her to publicly discuss her sexual identity, she explained: ‘It’s just something that I honestly didn’t really know how to formally address for a long period of my life.’

The television personality said that in the past she had ‘underplay[ed]’ her sexuality ‘for a long period.’

She added, however, that she was ‘finally in the era’ of wanting to ‘show every part of Layla to the world.’

‘I’m very proud now to be out,’ she added.

Taylor also admitted that previously she ‘didn’t really know how to formally address’ her sexuality.

She recalled how she has ‘always had these thoughts’ but did not share them because she felt she ‘already stood out so much’ as ‘being a little Black girl … in a very predominantly white area.’

She continued: ‘I kind of laugh about it now because I would be watching shows like Pretty Little Liars and I would watch, like, Shay Mitchell kissing a girl. I was like, “Wait, why is that hot?”‘

Taylor said she ‘didn’t know if it was just a phase’ and had a hard time figuring out ‘those feelings’ due to the lack of ‘queer representation’ around her when she was growing up.

‘It wasn’t necessarily that I had … pressure not to do that,’ she clarified.

‘I just didn’t have people around me that modeled that,’ she admitted.

Taylor also explained that she did not come out to her Mormon Wives castmates prior to recording the podcast episode, coming out publicly on the platform.

‘I feel like me coming out, it’s not really a text,’ she said. ‘I feel like I want to see them in person to let them know.’

Taylor added: ‘So they might see this before and then I’ll talk to them in person the next time I see them.’

Previously, Taylor was married to Clayton Wessell for nearly three years before they called it quits in 2023.

She shares two young sons Oliver and Maxwell with Wessell. The exes finalized their divorce last year.

Since their separation, Taylor has been romantically linked to Cameron Jolly, who appeared on season 2 of Mormon Wives, and Mason McWhorter, from whom she split about four months ago.

She was last in a relationship with McWhorter for less than a year and confirmed their breakup with a teary TikTok clip in February.

The cast of the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives are currently in the middle of filming season five.

A release date for the upcoming season has not yet been announced by Hulu, but the preceding seasons are all available on the streamer.
