Following a dramatic third installment that explored the estrangement between Osha and Mae, The Acolyte‘s fourth episode returns to a more conventional Star Wars TV narrative. While the series remains engaging, it struggles to stand out amid today’s plethora of exceptional shows.
The Hunt for Mae on Khofar
The episode centers on the Jedi squad led by Sol (played by Lee Jung-jae) as they track Mae to Khofar, hoping to thwart her next target – Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca. Despite the setup, the portrayal of Mae as an instinctive killer fails to fully convince. Sol’s conversations suggest she is merely a misguided youth rather than a murderer. Perhaps future episodes will offer more context for Mae’s actions, reframing how the Jedi perceive her.
Mae’s arrival on Khofar culminates in a shocking discovery when she finds Kelnacca already dead. This scene elevates the suspense, particularly as the shadowy antagonist Force-pushes Sol’s Jedi unit. Speculations are rife about this mysterious Sith Lord, with some suggesting a connection to characters from previous episodes.
Character Dynamics and Development
The episode also shines through its strong cast performances. Charlie Barnett brings depth to his portrayal of Yord Fandar despite limited character development. The Acolyte masterfully maintains intrigue around Mae and her ally Qimir (Manny Jacinto), especially regarding their enigmatic Sith master whose identity grows closer to being revealed. Recent events have intensified this mystery—a key moment being when Mae finds Kelnacca already assassinated in his own home

A Different Kind of Episode
This chapter serves more as a narrative bridge rather than a standalone story like its predecessor. With solid performances and intriguing plot developments—including a notable cameo from Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi—the writing, however, falls somewhat flat.
Even though the script feels somewhat transitional
and sets the stage for future revelations, one hopes upcoming episodes will fully capitalize on these setup elements.
