Sydney Sweeney and Colman Domingo looked somewhat 'uncomfortable' around each other at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night

They starred together in Euphoria and she is taking the lead in his upcoming directorial debut – but Sydney Sweeney and Colman Domingo looked somewhat ‘uncomfortable’ around each other at the Emmy Awards.

The duo were caught on camera chatting at the show in Los Angeles on Sunday night, with Sydney, 28, and Colman, 55, greeting one another in the auditorium.

The Four Seasons actor approached Sydney before kissing her on both cheeks, affectionately holding her arms and gesturing towards her outfit in a clip shared by E-News.

However, many eagle-eyed observers suspected some unexpected tension from Sydney, commenting that it looked as though she was actively trying to exit the conversation.

Body language expert Judi James has now exclusively told the Daily Mail that it was not surprising Sydney was somewhat reserved in front of the cameras as she detailed the star’s gestures of hesitation.

‘Colman’s greeting ritual is a fashionista-style air kiss complete with a loud “Mwa” as his cheek brushes Sydney’s,’ she observed, musing the older actor seemed more comfortable with the interaction in comparison to his younger co-star.

‘He holds her elbow in a gesture of friendship and his “How are you my love?” comes with an eye sweep of appreciation, where he steps back slightly to allow his eyes to “sweep” along her dress with a very flattering gaze of admiration,’ she added.

Judi said the Colman kept constant eye contact, along with a ‘beaming smile’ and ‘tucked-down chin’ showing her his undivided attention.

‘He holds her upper arm as he chuckles to signal warm bonds,’ she said.

‘As they chat, Colman moves closer as though keen to get beyond the small talk but Sydney begins to send out disengagement signals even while he is leaning and locking in for the conversation,’ she observed.

The White Lotus actress then appeared to place her hand on Colman’s chest in a ‘brake’ gesture, with Judi observing it was to ‘apparently retain some distance and to avoid a closely pressed hug.’

‘She starts to use a clawed left hand to throw the hair back off her face and then places that hand onto his shoulder as though beginning to signal an end to the conversation,’ Judi shared.

The expert said the actress began to angle her torso away from Colman as though announcing she needs to go and carry on networking.

‘She sways her body away from him in another announcement ritual,’ she pointed out.

But Judi said it’s not unusual for Hollywood stars to be somewhat guarded in front of cameras at large events.

‘Two hot Hollywood stars chatting together like Sydney and Colman will always be camera catnip at a show like the Emmys, which will explain some of their self-aware-looking body language here as the photographers encircle them,’ she explained.

However, James concluded: ‘There is aome subtle awkwardness plus a rather pre-emptive leave-taking from Sydney just as Colman seems to be moving in for a longer conversation.

‘There are no signals of any active dislike between the pair but there is a lack of relaxed synchronicity, with Colman looking keen to flatter and chat while Sydney appears less comfortable,’ she explained.

Judi suggested her dress, a cleavage-baring red Oscar de la Renta gown, may be one of the reasons for the ‘slightly distanced’ signals.

‘It’s a Jessica Rabbit look that might not respond too well to too much movement or spontaneous hugging,’ she explained.

But Sydney’s guarded demeanor could have something to do with the actress appearing to have fallen out of favor with her fellow stars, with the Euphoria actress making a subdued appearance on the biggest night in television.

While she took to the stage to present Owen Cooper with the Outstanding Supporting Actor award, Sydney was not pictured mingling with any of the celebrities backstage, nor was she seen at any of the afterparties.

With Sydney once Hollywood’s darling, questions have been raised over why her involvement at the Emmys was so limited – with it suggested that it may have something to do with the recent controversies she has faced.

The Anyone But You star has been on shaky ground after a huge backlash over her American Eagle denim campaign, which was branded ‘Nazi propaganda’ by critics.

It has also been revealed that the blonde beauty is a registered member of the Republican Party, which sparked a hugely divided response.
