Tennessee Titans trade CB for draft pick swap

Tennessee Titans CB Jarvis Brownlee traded to New York Jets.

The Tennessee Titans are 0-3 on the season following an embarrassing loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Following the 21-point loss, there have been calls for head coach Brian Callahan’s job and accusations by opponents that the team didn’t even look look they wanted to be out there in Week 3.

Now, after ranking second-to-last in total offense (ahead of only the Cincinnati Bengals) through three weeks, Titans’ general manager Mike Borgonzi decided to shake things up on defense because that makes sense.

The Titans on Tuesday traded cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the New York Jets for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Brownlee started each of the first two games this season, but was inactive this past week with an ankle injury.

Someone explain how this makes you a better team right now. Did Brownlee do something in the locker room we don’t know about? He was probably overjoyed to hear that he had been traded and then they told him where he was going. Sorry, Jarvis, at least there is more to do in New York.

Tennessee Titans look lifeless

Is it too early for the Titans to start reading mock drafts? With moves like this, the team is going nowhere fast and should be picking in the top three in 2026.

Maybe team management has the same laissez-faire attitude towards the team as the Titans players do. After all, Colts’ wide receiver Michael Pittman said after the game on Sunday that the Titans didn’t seem like they wanted to even play.

“Saw it on the pre-game intros,” Pittman said after the game. “They kinda looked a little sluggish, they were kinda walking around, nobody was really bouncing. Right then and there we all sat there and were like ‘They don’t want to play today.’”

That’s not good and speaks volumes about the head coach, who knows something has to change.

Callahan already gives up play calling for Tennessee Titans

The Titans’ changes this week didn’t just come on the defensive side of the ball. You can be sure that Brownlee isn’t some kind of scape goat for this disaster. They also made a big change to the offense, where Callahan will no longer call plays.

Callahan came to the Titans last season after several years as offensive coordinator of the Bengals. So, offense is apparently his thing, unless you want to make the argument that anyone could call plays for Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

“I have zero disappointment in my play calling,” Callahan said. “I don’t have any disappointment in that at all. It’s just more so I can see the rest of it, see the big picture better, and do a better job of it.”

He says that there is a lot to handle as the head coach of an NFL team, and that’s absolutely true. Your job as the lead dog is less about deciding whether to run or pass and more about getting everyone on the team pulling in the same direction.

Callahan seems to be failing at both.

Moving forward, Titans’ quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree will be in charge of calling plays starting this Sunday in Houston against the Texans.

“It’s more just so I can be a better head coach, and not just an offensive play caller. I think that’s the biggest thing. I think that’s what we need right now, and that’s my job, to make that decision and put myself in that spot to help us win football games,” Callahan said.

Not sure how trading Brownlee helps you win football games, but okay. It’s not like the Titans are deep at corner and they certainly didn’t get anything of any substance in return. Right now, the Titans are just getting worse.
