The Texas Longhorns have already done a lot of work in the Transfer Portal. So far, they have added 18 players from the portal at this point. By merging both the incoming 2026 recruiting class and the portal additions, they have the second-best class in the country.

After just barely missing the College Football Playoff, the Longhorns need to figure out a way to retool the roster. It seems that Texas has decided to improve the offensive side of the ball as much as possible. They have added nine players from the portal on that side of the ball already.

The Longhorns have already added the top receiver in the portal by landing Cam Coleman from Auburn. Now, they are hosting another wide receiver from the Transfer Portal. Steve Sarkisian and his staff are hosting former Wake Forest receiver Sterling Berkhalter for a visit.

Texas Longhorns Host Sterling Berkhalter for a Visit

According to Jordan Scruggs of Horns247, the Longhorns are currently hosting Berkhalter. Berkahalter spent last season at Wake Forest, but has also played for Cincinnati and North Carolina A&T. He is searching for his fourth school in five years.

Berkhalter had his best collegiate season last season, catching 30 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns. He wouldn’t be one of the top two receivers if he decided to commit to the Longhorns, but he would add some significant depth for them.

With Arch Manning returning for his senior season, Sarkisian is trying his best to maximize his talents. Last season, Texas had just the 42nd-ranked passing offense in the country. They scored just seven points in the season-opener against Ohio State, as well.

Sarkisian is trying to improve that part of the offense heading into next season. He understands that it is the best way for them to make the 12-team College Football Playoff. The last time they made it was in 2024 when they fell in the Cotton Bowl to Ohio State.

The Texas Longhorns Have an Easy 2026 Schedule

Compared to last season, the Longhorns have a relatively easy schedule. While they do play the Buckeyes for the third straight year, they get to play them at home this time. In the SEC, they avoid Alabama, Georgia, and Vanderbilt. They also get to play Ole Miss at home.

If the Longhorns are going to have a shot at making the CFP again, 2026 is the year to do it and compete for a national championship. The Buckeyes lost a ton of defensive talent. Ole Miss has a brand new coaching staff. Oklahoma loses its starting quarterback.

The Longhorns are planning on bringing in a couple of more prospects from the Transfer Portal in pursuit of that goal. Winning a national championship is a reasonable goal for this team heading into 2026, and they should be a preseason top 25 team in the polls.
