McDonald's customers have discovered they can order 2L milk at the drive-thru

McDonald’s Australia customers have gone into meltdown after discovering they can order 2L bottles of milk at the drive-thru.

The fast food restaurant started selling essential items including milk, eggs and bread at drive-thrus to help with grocery shortages during Covid lockdowns in 2020.

However, select Macca’s locations are still offering household staples like milk – including full cream, soy or almond – leaving many stunned. Milk doesn’t appear on menus so customers are required to check with employees at the drive-thru.

Queensland dad Aaron McDonald and his wife shared a video showing themselves ordering a 2L bottle of full cream milk at McDonald’s in the middle of the night.

‘When you run out of milk at midnight in Australia…,’ the video said.

The video shows Aaron casually asking an employee at drive-thru, ‘Can I just get a 2L milk please?’ to which she responded, ‘Yes, full cream?’

An employee can be seen handing the $3.50 bottle to Aaron through the window.

‘The “secret” actually came to me a few years ago during Covid lockdown… When I first discovered you could just grab a 2L bottle of milk through drive-thru window, I thought it was a total game-changer,’ Aaron told Daily Mail.

‘I’ve been using this “pro tip” ever since, especially when I’m commuting to or from work. The beauty of it is the pure convenience.

‘If you’ve ever had kids strapped into car seats, you know the absolute nightmare of unbuckling everyone and dragging them into a grocery store just for one item. Doing a “milk run” without ever leaving the driver’s seat felt like winning a trophy.’

A McDonald’s Australia spokeswoman told Daily Mail: ‘While many restaurants temporarily offered essential items during the COVID‑19 period, a small group of Macca’s restaurants have sold milk as part of their regular offering for a number of years.

‘Today, a handful of Macca’s restaurants across the country continue to sell milk, offering a range that varies by location from full‑cream through to soy, almond, lactose‑free, oat and skim options.’

Aaron – who documents his Filipino-Aussie family life on Instagram and Facebook – said when he told his Filipino wife about the little-known menu item, she was shocked.

‘She was absolutely floored – she couldn’t believe it was that easy. She immediately said, “We have to go try this right now”,’ he explained.

‘There’s something almost rebellious about pulling up to a fast food speaker at peak hour, (or midnight) and just asking for a 2L full cream milk.

‘Not only is it fast, but the price is surprisingly cheap.’

His wife said: ‘Can’t believe this actually is a thing here.’

However, milk is only available at some stores so it’s best to check.

‘What makes this a “treasured secret” is that not every McDonald’s offers it. It’s not always on the main menu boards, so you have to be “in the know”,’ Aaron said.

‘Once you find your local Macca’s that stocks the 2L bottles, and is prepared to sell them, it honestly feels like finding gold.

‘It’s that rare intersection of a bargain and a massive time-saver that every busy Aussie family needs.’

His video has been viewed more than 8.5 million times – with many saying they never knew you could buy bottles of milk at McDonald’s.

‘No way! This is the best thing ever and it’s only January 2026,’ one said, laughing.

‘I was today years old when I learned this,’ another shared.

‘Wow! I didn’t know about this. Pretty cool,’ one revealed.

‘OMG $3.50 for full cream milk. This is way better,’ another added.

Many also pointed out that the $3.50 milk from McDonald’s was much cheaper than supermarkets, which can cost up to $4.50.

‘That’s surprisingly cheap considering it’s Norco,’ one said.

Some asked the couple why they didn’t just go to a petrol station for milk, but many quickly responded: ‘Why would we pay more and have to walk in?’

‘Plus the servo doesn’t have McFlurries, and chicken nuggets,’ another suggested.

But not everyone was lucky when they tried to order milk at the Drive-Thru.

‘Last time I did this, they told me they “don’t sell milk and never have” – it was very embarrassing,’ one said.

Meanwhile, many shared they have been buying milk at Macca’s for years.

‘It’s been my favourite life hack. Now it’s gonna be sold out half the time,’ one said.
