Aldi Australia shoppers proclaimed that their in-house Choceur Peanut Butter Chocolate Block was an excellent dupe for iconic American chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

An own-brand chocolate bar sold in Aussie supermarkets has been hailed as a dupe for the iconic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Aldi Australia’s in-house confectionery brand Choceur has been selling its $4.49 Peanut Butter Chocolate Block since last year – and Aussie shoppers have now declared that it is, in fact, better than the world-famous Reese’s.

‘It’s better than Reese’s. So much better,’ one shopper triumphed in a recent online discussion forum post.

‘Tastes like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup but not as sickly sweet. Might be my new fav chocy,’ agreed the person who sparked the discussion.

‘Tastes BETTER than Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup,’ agreed another response.

‘Trust me, I love peanut butter and this is 1000 per cent better than a Reese’s product,’ added another.

Many Aldi shoppers agreed that the Choceur product surpassed the original because its flavours were superior.

‘The peanut butter is smooth, creamy and salty. It’s not chalky,’ explained one chocolate lover. ‘The chocolate is rich but the sweetness is balanced by the salt. It’s how a peanut butter chocolate should be!’

Another similar reply said: ‘This is made with nice chocolate and a smooth, salty, creamy peanut butter. The chocolate isn’t American chocolate and the peanut butter isn’t chalky and bland.’

‘My wife and I prefer this to Reese’s, tastes less artificial,’ agreed another.

Even fans of the original Reese’s admitted that the Choceur take on the chocolate and peanut butter combo was elite.

‘I love Reese’s too but they’re a bit too sweet for me so this lowkey hit the spot,’ one Aussie woman replied.

An Aldi spokesperson told Daily Mail: ‘Since we launched the delicious Choceur Peanut Butter Chocolate Block in 2025, our customers just cannot get enough of this smooth, creamy milk chocolate delight filled with creamy peanut butter.’

The Aldi version also offers a better value proposition, with the 200g block priced at $4.49. On the contrary, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Miniature Milk Chocolates 150g bags are sold in both Coles and Woolworths for $6.

In addition to being a bargain, one shopper went so far as to say that the copycat sweet treat was ‘dangerous’. They laughingly explained: ‘I felt like an eldritch beast possessed me when I first had it and monstered the lot.’

However, not everyone was in agreement, explaining that the Aldi treat was merely an imitator.

‘It’s good, but it’s no Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup,’ argued one Aussie.

‘I love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and I was so excited to try this but IMO it tasted nothing like them. Huge letdown for me,’ read one disappointed reply.

‘100 per cent agree. Reese’s is waaay superior to these,’ chimed in another. ‘I was so upset I wasted my money on the Choceur Peanut Butter Block. Even though normally Choceur hits the spot, this flavour doesn’t.’

In the same way that some shoppers felt the Choceur chocolate outdid the Reese’s version in the flavour department, this same argument was used by those on the other side.

‘Tastes nothing like a Reese’s. The peanut butter filling is way sweeter and runnier,’ one person argued.

‘The peanut butter is too greasy and made me nauseous after a couple squares,’ added another. ‘Half the appeal of Reese’s is the consistency, which is created by blending peanut butter with icing sugar.’

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are an American candy consisting of a peanut butter filling encased in chocolate. They were first created in 1928 and are made by the Hershey Company.

Although opinions were firmly split over whether the Choceur Peanut Butter Chocolate Block was superior to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, one thing many agreed on within the comments was that the Aldi Choceur brand consistently punched above its weight – particularly given its bargain price tag.

Many who replied to the Reddit post gave a big shout out to some of the other excellent flavours within the confectionery range.

Favourites that were repeatedly mentioned included the Choceur Milk Coconut Chocolate Block and Choceur Salted Pretzel Chocolate Block – both available in a 200g bar priced at $4.99.

‘The milk chocolate coconut one is very yummy,’ confirmed one sweet tooth.

‘The pretzel one is also a game changer,’ added another.

Another agreed: ‘It’s bomb. It has a great balance of sweet and salty, with a crunch.’

One Aldi shopper summed up the conversation best: ‘I feel Choceur is highly under-rated. It deserves more respect.’
