A single woman who started dating a ‘nice’ guy noticed something unusual in his text response – leading her to discover a ‘mildly infuriating’ detail.
The woman said she started suspecting her date was using ChatGPT to respond to all her texts because his messages were ‘well constructed’.
‘The more I get to know him in person, the more his texts sound like ChatGPT because it’s not his personality,’ she explained.
‘And when I talk to him in person or over the phone, he doesn’t say anything creative or funny like he does with texts.’
In one of the texts, the woman said: ‘Maybe we can get a little robot by then. A Roomba that comes next to my bed and splashes water haha.’
Her date replied: ‘That sounds less like a Roomba and more like a very aggressive life coach.’
It wasn’t just a one-off, with the woman explaining that it was happening ‘text after text’.
‘I had a feeling he was using ChatGPT because it just sounds like when I talk to ChatGPT and the answers I get,’ she said.

The woman said she started suspecting her date was using ChatGPT to respond to all her texts because his messages were ‘well constructed’. Trying to get down to the bottom of it, she decided to ask ChatGPT to reply to her text to see what responses she got back
‘Every answer he gives me feels like it doesn’t come from him. I don’t know if he’s just lazy or wants to impress me. Our two dates have gone well. But I hate that he puts zero thought into the replies.’
Trying to get to the bottom of it, she decided to ask ChatGPT to reply to her text to see what responses she got back.
It replied with almost the exact same response as he did.
It gave her two responses: ‘Haha, knowing me I’d end up declaring war on it by the second morning.’
Or if he preferred a ‘flirty’ response, it suggested: ‘Haha, that sounds less like a Roomba and more like a very aggressive personal assistant.’
In another conversation, the man texted: ‘Honestly, I’m not surprised you’re drained. Between the roommate situation and trying to figure out staffing, that’s a lot to carry at once.
‘And I don’t blame you for being cautious about overnights. Trusting someone with that kind of responsibility takes time.
‘Hopefully the Saturday coverage works out and gives you at least a little breathing room.’

Her post was met with 3,600 comments, with one pointing out: ‘If they can’t be bothered to think for themselves enough to text back, I would assume you’re going to have larger problems moving forward.’
‘I’d stop dating him immediately. Just let him date a chatbot,’ another said.
‘This would be a dealbreaker for me because clearly he doesn’t care about you enough to WANT to fully engage with you,’ one added.
‘I truly couldn’t be friends with ANYONE like this, let alone date them,’ one revealed.
Another jokingly suggested: ‘Put his texts into ChatGPT and see how long until he notices he’s in a loop,’ to which the woman replied: ‘Haha ChatGPT dating ChatGPT.’
Many were invested in the idea, with one saying: ‘Holy s*** that would be amazing if you did this. Just for like a day, and let’s just see how this AI relationship goes. What if they fall in love?’
Meanwhile, one man revealed his date used ChatGPT to break up with him.
‘Getting dumped by a woman using ChatGPT was a very surreal experience. It enables them to not catch feelings,’ he said.
‘If you don’t read anything they write, and you don’t read anything you write, you can discard someone who loves you clearly without triggering any negative emotions like guilt or remorse.’
