Gwyneth Paltrow looked younger than ever as she arrived to the 2026 Oscars on Sunday – but fans couldn’t help but notice that something seemed different about the Goop goddess as they branded her ‘unrecognizable.’
Paltrow, whose movie, Marty Supreme, is nominated for Best Picture, wore a custom Giorgio Armani Privé ivory silk gown with a huge slit on the side to mark her first appearance at the awards since 2015.
The star, 53, paired her strapless gown with white heels and a simple diamond necklace, as she wore her hair in a side part and showed off her décolletage.
But fans couldn’t seem to get over her extremely fresh-faced looks on Sunday, as they quickly took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their shock.
‘Who is this plastic-faced person? Gwyneth Paltrow? Didn’t recognize her at the Oscars,’ one user wrote.
Another agreed, ‘Gwyneth Paltrow cannot move her face.’
Someone else asked, ‘Does she have a new-style face?’

According to Oregon-based plastic surgeon Dr Sean McNally, who analyzed pictures and videos of the star, Paltrow may have undergone plastic surgery in recent years.

Dr McNally, who has not treated Paltrow, suspects that she may have undergone an upper eyelid lift and a facelift a few years ago.
He noted that she has something called ‘pixie ear deformity’ in previous pictures from 2021, which points to signs of a facelift.
‘[It] is a sign of a scar around the ear under tension for neck or face and neck lift,’ Dr McNally, of Reviance Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center, told the Daily Mail.
He also suspects that Paltrow has had neuromodulators, like Botox, injected into her face.
Botox, also known as Botulinum Toxin, is a cosmetic injection that works by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles, which prevents movement. It’s oftentimes used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and aging.
‘She’s got motion in forehead and lower face, but her midface and around the eyes are more immobile than I’d expect without her having some sort of neuromodulator like Botox,’ Dr McNally said after he viewed video of Paltrow presenting at Sunday’s Oscars awards.
In the past, Paltrow has admitted to getting Botox, writing in a 2023 Instagram story that she’s had both ‘successful’ and ‘unsuccessful’ experiences with the injection.
She’s also been widely speculated to have gotten thread lifts, which use dissolvable sutures to lift the face, according to New Beauty.

In 2023, the star spoke to Vogue about her thoughts on aging.
‘I think it’s culture’s problem [that women seem to be judged more on getting older than men]. It’s not ours! As women, we want to be healthy, we want to be aging,’ she told the outlet at the time.
‘This idea that we’re supposed to be frozen in time is so weird. I love it when I hear somebody like Andie MacDowell, with her beautiful grey curls, talking about embracing aging and the difference between how we handle a George Clooney [compared to how most women are perceived],’ she said.
‘It’s handsome to go grey [as a man], but for women, it’s like, “What do you plan to do about your wrinkles and your aging skin?” There’s definitely a double standard. But again, we want to be aging!’
She also added that we should be setting different examples of how women can age.
‘Every woman should do it how they want to do it,’ Paltrow said.
‘Some women want to address every single thing aesthetically, and some women want to be a fabulous French grandmother who doesn’t ever do anything. Everybody should be empowered to do it how they want to.’
