Suede is a perennial trend, but its presence on the AW 25-26 runways has been more impactful than ever. A warm material, often found in cosy shades of brown and beige, it is the perfect pick for winter dressing.

While suede is now available all over the high street, as ever, the trend’s popularity can be traced back to designer collections. Although Chloé’s AW24 show pushed us to embrace suede with a bohemian touch, this season, designers are taking it in a more understated, luxe direction.

Brunello Cucinelli, Hermès and Tod’s – all known for a ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic – updated classic trenches and tailored trousers with buttery suede in varying shades, while Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Lauren and Stouls featured the material in their tailoring.

For more everyday inspiration, look to the street stylers. They’ve been wearing the trend en masse in recent months – with a suede jacket being by far the most favoured item. Victoria’s Secret model Romee Strijd styled a casual look, matching a suede button-up barn jacket with suede ballet pumps in Milan recently, while The Attico co-founder Giorgia Tordini picked a floor-grazing suede trench to attend a Ferragamo show.

After a lighter touch? An accessory is a great way to go and there are loads of beautiful yet affordable options on the high street. Autograph at M&S has some great suede bags that could easily be mistaken for designer, while the suede loafers from Next or Dune are spitting images for Saint Laurent’s iconic Le Loafer style.

  • Faux suede is a more affordable way to try the trend. However, stick to neutral shades. Anything too colourful can look cheap.
  • Suede can feel heavy so stick to floaty styles, like a wrap skirt or lightweight shacket.
  • Suede gloves are a more elevated alternative to wool .
  • Treat easily marked items, like bags and shoes, with a suede protector. We particularly love this spray from Penelope Chilvers.
