Cult haircare brand Living Proof has just launched a new spray which claims to be able to refresh your blow dry in minutes, without the need for a re-wash. Three members of the Inspire team put the Perfect Hair Day Style Refresh Mist (£27, livingproof.co.uk) to the test to see if it can really extend the life of your blow dry, whatever your hair type.

When this product landed on my desk a good while ahead of its arrival in stores – I was intrigued. Having tried it, I can only say I’ve been itching to share it with you, repeatedly checking the launch date as the weeks ticked over. Because this one really is a cracker. The idea behind it is clever – it gives you another go at your blow dry, erasing the dents and the frizz that time somehow adds. For some that damage comes from dragging hair back into a scrunchie or a bun. For me, it’s from constantly tucking my hair behind my ears at my desk.
I wash my long, fine hair every other day, and, if I’m feeling fancy, finish with a quick whizz of the Air Wrap. But there’s no denying that second day hair is, well second day hair.
So, to the test. I sprayed this on, then blasted with the dryer (this mist is heat protectant too) and styled as I usually would – and was thrilled with the result. So much so, that the next time I used it I decided to time it – stop watch on, with six sprays, it took me 2 mins, 4 seconds from spritz to done.
Then, I popped it in my bag and took it into the office to see what my colleagues thought – compliments ensued – and so we decided to pass it around the desk. Read on to see how it fared on Maria’s gloriously thick brunette bob and Poppy’s Titian curls…

My life’s struggle with the thick curly frizzy hair the genes lottery gave me has dictated many major decisions. Like the time I dropped out of Swansea University after a term thanks to the constant drizzle playing havoc with my follicles. I eventually graduated in a marginally drier climate up the M4 in Cardiff. True fact. However, as my long-suffering partner can verify, I have a home and garage full of lotions and potions that my unruly hair has successfully defeated.
So for decades now, I’ve let the experts tackle the problem, with a weekly wash and blow-dry salon visit. But, like everyone now, I’m watching the pennies so these trips are now only bi-monthly. Eew, hello stinky, greasy, lacklustre hair, you’re thinking. Actually no!
Amazingly, and believe me, I literally could not believe my eyes either, but this Style Refresh Mist has transformed my hair between salon visits. My technique: I’m rather free and easy with the misting, so much so my hair looks quite wet. Like a light drizzle all over. During air drying though, the magic happens. Then I look in the mirror and my hair is suddenly glossy, voluminous, frizz free and, bonus, smells delicious.
Given that hair icon Jen Aniston uses Living Proof products I like to think I now know what she smells like – just like me! Whatever dark arts are in this bottle – there’s mention of amino acids, polypeptides, biomimetic lipopeptide, babasu oil ester and natural enzymes – I’m not one to question the science, only that I’m clearing out the garage for a job lot. Truly life changing!

I’m often complimented on my head of very thick, curly hair by little old ladies who come up to me on public transport asking to run their hands through it. But little does the well-meaning stranger realise that curly hair is both a blessing and a curse. While beautiful on wash day, within days it’s frizzy and unruly.
I usually wash my hair once a week – with coils, grease is hidden, and curly hair is such a chore to maintain I can’t bring myself to go through the several-step process more often than that.
But over the week, the neat ringlets slowly drop and bizarre cowlicks tend to form, giving the appearance of someone dragged through brambles.
I’ve tried to restore my locks by scrunching with wet hands or lightly spritzing my head, but all this does is increase the frizz. Various products claim to restore curls and rejuvenate bounce but I’ve yet to find one that delivers.
But not so with Living Proof Style Refresh Mist. Unlike water alone, which causes frizz, the mist, which you lightly spritz all over, blends amino acids, polypeptides, and hydrating actives, which re-sets hair strands between washes in a similar way to dry shampoo but with a much more flattering result.
I liberally spray my own curls, almost soaking them and then scrunch with my hands, separating curls and detangling and then leave to air-dry and in no time at all my hair is restored.
