Aldi shoppers have been struggling to find the $2.99 chocolate coconut water in stores

An unexpected $2.99 item from Aldi Australia has been flying off shelves, with shoppers revealing they are struggling to find them in stores.

The supermarket chain has been selling chocolate coconut water, which is said to be a ‘dupe’ of the sell-out $5.50 Cocobella version.

Since launching in November, the Aldi version, which is almost half price, is hard to come by as customers are bulk-buying them in droves – leaving shelves bare.

‘This is insanely hard to get stock of. My store might get two boxes a week and the first two customers who see it buy a box each. It’s the new cottage cheese I swear,’ one said in a Reddit thread.

‘Stop hiding from me, Chocolate Coconut Water. I miss you. Come back. Too lazy to check out other Aldis ugh,’ another shared.

‘So upsetting,’ one added, along with a crying emoji.

The budget-friendly drinks have been a crowd pleaser, with many sharing rave reviews all over social media.

‘It’s pretty bloody good. I don’t know how but it has the exact same mouthfeel as chocolate milk,’ one shared.

‘So cheap and so good,’ another revealed.

‘This is the news we need, I can’t keep paying Cocobella prices,’ one said.

Many insisted the Aldi version tasted better than the original.

‘I’m a converted Aldi coconut water girl now. I’ve been buying it for weeks. I think it’s actually a creamier taste,’ one said.

‘Aldi one tastes 100000 times better,’ another shared.

‘I love Cocobella but the Aldi one actually tastes better,’ one insisted.

‘The Aldi one is the best,’ another added.

‘Delicious,’ he said.

‘It’s 69 calories per serve. It goes hard. Definitely check it out… It’s a little bit more watery than your Cocobella but man, the taste is there. It’s yum.’

The chocolate coconut water comes hot on the heels of the cottage cheese craze, which has repeatedly sold out after becoming a key ingredient in a viral dish – causing a nationwide shortage across Australia.

The unlikely dairy product became a star ingredient after the cottage cheese beef bowl with chilli honey exploded in popularity on social media, leaving shoppers frantically searching for it.
