Woolworths employee Emily tried to film her own version of the trend - only to discover her store was completely sold out

A packet of chocolates most Aussies would normally walk straight past in the lolly aisle has suddenly become impossible to find.

Shoppers across the country are reporting bare shelves where Clinkers should be, and the reason is an amusing TikTok trend that’s taken over.

The game is simple but strangely addictive.

You bite into a Clinker to reveal the colour inside – pink, yellow or green – and let that decide your ‘fate.’

People are setting playful challenges with their friends, partners and even co-workers, with stakes ranging from ‘If it’s pink, I’ll take you on a shopping spree’ to ‘If it’s green, you’re cooking dinner tonight.’

Others use it to settle arguments or make snap decisions, turning the humble lolly into a social decider that has gone viral across Australia.

Clips of the challenge have racked up millions of views, sending Aussies rushing to Coles and Woolworths in search of the $7 bags.

But many are leaving empty-handed.

Shoppers across the country are reporting bare shelves where Clinkers should be, and the reason is a bizarre TikTok trend that’s taken over

Woolworths employee Emily tried to film her own version of the trend – only to discover her store was completely sold out.

‘I was going to do the Clinkers trend but look – we don’t have any. I guess I’ll have to make do,’ she said, before jokingly attempting the game with M&Ms, which of course doesn’t work because the colours are already visible.

The reaction online has been mixed.

While many can’t get enough of the trend, loyal Clinkers fans aren’t thrilled.

‘I’ve gone to two Woolworths to get my favourite chocolate, which is Clinkers, and they’ve been sold out,’ one shopper complained.

Another fumed, ‘This is getting out of hand, I can’t find Clinkers anywhere.’

Others, however, have leaned into the joke, mixing M&Ms or even peanuts together in a bowl to try to recreate the same guessing game.

It isn’t the first time TikTok has caused chaos in Australian supermarkets.

Viral food hacks and recipes have a habit of wiping out shelves, from feta pasta to the latest cottage cheese craze.

Earlier this year, a simple hot honey sweet potato beef bowl recipe went so viral that cottage cheese became impossible to find nationwide, with shoppers left staring at empty fridges.

For now, Clinkers are the latest casualty of the social media effect – a reminder that in the age of social media, even the most unexpected items can vanish overnight.
