Jenna Ortega co-stars alongside The Weeknd in his project Hurry Up Tomorrow - a horror movie surrounding a musician

  • The Weeknd produced Hurry Up Tomorrow starring himself and Jenna Ortega
  • Initial moviegoers are rating the movie poorly, calling it a ‘vanity project’
  • Fans have since been urging The Weeknd to ‘stick to music’

The Weeknd’s first creative project outside of music, The Idol – a show about a pop-star joining what one could describe as a self-help guru’s ‘cult’ – didn’t do so well.

The show, which featured Abel Tesfaye himself along with Lily-Rose Depp, earned itself a shockingly-low 19 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Well, it turns out that The Weeknd’s latest producing efforts titled Hurry Up Tomorrow – co-starring Jenna Ortega – has The Idol beat… but not in the way that you’d expect.

While it hasn’t gotten an official Rotten Tomatoes score yet (the movie isn’t set to officially release everywhere until tomorrow), there are some fan reviews already coming in – and they do not look good.

Among the audience ratings are two 0.5s out of 4, a 0 out of 4, and even an F.

And the comments aren’t much kinder than the ratings.

‘You don’t watch this film so much as try to survive it,’ one viewer scathingly wrote.

Other reviewers said that the movie comes off as a vanity project from The Weeknd, calling the project ‘vapid,’ ‘meandering,’ and ‘insistent on its own profundity.’

Fans who have seen the movie early are already calling it the 'worst movie of the decade'

And the slander didn’t stop on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their disdain toward the film.

One user called the film ‘soulless’ and ‘exhausting.’

‘Essentially a feature length commercial for the album,’ they wrote.

‘All style, no substance. Not even Jenna Ortega dancing to Blinding Lights could save this self-insistent slop.’

Another user – a self-proclaimed fan of Ortega’s work – called it ‘easily the worst movie of the decade.’

‘Hurry Up Tomorrow is pure bufoonery,’ someone else wrote.

While social media users aren’t exactly giving away spoilers, they are indicating that there are scenes that seem to included for the sake of stroking The Weeknd’s ego.

One user wrote, ‘there’s a scene in the third act of Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025) where Jenna Ortega is doing a full on ad for The Weeknd’s music with the most self-jerking dialogue.’

The movie is meant to be a horror film surrounding the mind of a musician – but fan’s reactions hint at confusion and ‘ridiculousness.’

‘Hurry Up Tomorrow ends with the Weeknd torturing Jenna Ortega with Goblins he calls his “real fans,”‘ an X user wrote.

‘One of the worst vanity projects I have ever seen.

‘Could not believe my eyes at the ridiculous s**t in this movie.’

Though these are simply initial reactions, it seems as though one TikTok user may have summed up what The Weeknd may want to take away from fans: ‘Abel I love you but stick to music.’
