Thursday's Final Word – HotAir

Liberating the tabs

Ed: Insane, but predictable. Democrats are running away from problems and responsibility, especially in Texas. Why wouldn’t they run away from budgeting over butt-hurt about Trump doing something about crime in the nation’s capital?

===

NY Post: Federal law enforcement agents and DC police on Wednesday tackled and arrested an illegal migrant from Mexico, who was charged with child sex crimes last year, after he tried to run from officers.

The dramatic arrest of David Perez-Teofani, captured on video by a reporter, occurred near the National Mall, nine days after President Trump declared a crime emergency in Washington, DC and deployed thousands of federal officers and National Guard troops to patrol the streets of the nation’s capital.

Ed: I guess Garcia would prefer him to be on the streets so he can commit more crimes. Say, why doesn’t MSNBC ask Garcia about that?

===

Ed: McLaughlin is the Assistant Secretary at DHS. The Trump administration is not just aggressively enforcing the law, they are aggressively fighting the media narratives as well. They learned from the first term that the media does not have much interest in truth, but instead prioritizes the amplification of progressive elite propaganda. Time Mag: President Donald Trump said he will patrol D.C. streets on Thursday night alongside the Metropolitan Police Department and National Guard troops, as his Administration continues its effort to crack down on crime and exert control over the nation’s capital.

“I’m going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police and with the military, of course. So we’re going to do a job,” Trump said in an interview with conservative talk show host Todd Starnes. “The National Guard is great. They’ve done a fantastic job.”

Ed: Earlier today in my VIP column, I wrote about Trump’s projection of strength and its cultural and political implications. I am more convinced than ever that the cultural moment matters more than the politics of this or any other situation. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Trump will put himself on the front line along with the troops he ordered into service. Those are always good optics, and it projects even more strength. Especially in comparison to AWOL Democrats who argue for letting DC rot.

===

Ed: Can’t wait for Democrats to explain why all these numbers fell with just a show of enforcement while their leaders in DC didn’t bother to attempt that option in any meaningful manner.

===

USA Today: A slight majority of voters – 51% –  oppose the Trump administration taking over the DC, police force and deploying the National Guard in the nation’s capital, according to new data released Aug. 20 from a progressive polling firm.

The poll by Data for Progress also said only 11% of voters think that President Donald Trump’s National Guard deployment will be limited to DC. A majority believes Trump will deploy the National Guard to “many” (39%) or “a few” (35%) additional cities, according to the  Aug. 15 to Aug. 18 survey of 1,127 likely U.S. voters.

Ed: Data for Progress is a full-blown Left activist group … and even their poll could only barely muster a majority. This is/was one of Joe Biden’s favorite polling outfits. ‘Nuf said.

===

Ed: Stand by while I go to look for my shocked face …

===

CNN: The policy changes, according to people briefed on the matter, come as US Attorney Jeanine Pirro seeks to bolster support for President Donald Trump’s declaration of a crime emergency, which has included a takeover of the municipal police department and surge of federal law enforcement and National Guard troops in parts of the city.

The change appears to have already had an impact in DC’s Superior Court, where most misdemeanor, street crime and domestic violence charges are prosecuted like in a local or state court, but by the federal prosecutors from Pirro’s office.

Multiple times this week, several dozen more arrestees were charged with crimes and appeared in the court initially. In the past, a significant number of daily arrests wouldn’t have resulted in charges, a practice referred to as “no-papering,” often because the evidence is too unreliable or weak to use against defendants.

Pirro’s new policy pushes prosecutors to allow the cases to play out in court, even ones that might typically have been abandoned.

Ed: These cases didn’t get dropped due to lack of evidence. They got dropped because progressive prosecutors didn’t like enforcing the law. The George Soros-funded effort to elect progressive prosecutors had non-prosecution of most lower-level crimes as a chosen strategy for “social justice.” Pirro wants to go back to broken-window policing and prosecution, which works to reduce crime rates and makes cities safer.

===

Ed: One has to wonder what will happen if/when the New York Court of Appeal throws out the case as well as the judgment in this civil lawsuit. The DoJ may see that as a green flag to come after James, if not Alvin Bragg.

===

Ruy Teixeira: What I mean by that is that most Democrats in the House don’t have to worry about Republicans ever taking their jobs. Truly competitive swing districts are going extinct, thanks in large part to Democrats and Republicans moving away from each other, or what political scientists call “self-sorting.”

If anything, incumbent Democratic lawmakers only have to worry about challenges from other Democrats coming at them from the left. This is a problem for a number of reasons, not least of which is that there’s very little motivation for most of them to appear at all moderate.

This dynamic is terrible for the party’s reputation and its long-term electoral prospects and poses a far graver danger to Democrats than aggressive Republican gerrymandering in red states.

Ed: Fascinating observation from the center-Left Teixeira at The Free Press. In this sense, the Protection Racket Media is doing Democrats no favors. That is a key mechanism in the policing of what Teixeira refers to as the Democrat “orthodoxy,” which is essentially a radical neo-Marxist ideology. Their derangement over Trump’s success is going to push the party to the brink of extinction.
