Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry
The Golden State Warriors have become one of the most interesting teams to watch as the NBA trade deadline on February 5 continues drawing closer.
Stephen Curry and company have been dealing with a lot of adversity. Between Jimmy Butler’s season-ending ACL injury and the ongoing drama between the team and Jonathan Kuminga, the Warriors need to figure out their direction in the near future.
Butler’s injury has thrown a huge wrench in Golden State’s plans. The second his injury occurred, the Warriors’ NBA Finals chances took a massive hit. Now, the front office has to figure out how to move forward and what moves to make to increase their odds.
Keeping that in mind, one NBA legend spoke out and weighed in on what he thinks Golden State should do.
Carmelo Anthony Offers Trade Deadline Advice to the Golden State Warriors
During a recent appearance on “7PM in Brooklyn,” Anthony revealed what he thinks the Warriors should focus on leading up to the deadline.
“Steve Kerr, he not coaching potential. He coaching the system,” Anthony said. “You can trade Kuminga, and get something nice back that’s gonna help you go out there and compete right now.”
At the end of the day, trading Kuminga is without a doubt a priority for Golden State. He has become more of a distraction than a help of late.
So far this season, the 23-year-old forward has played in 20 games ande made 13 starts. He has averaged 12.1 points per game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Kuminga has shot 45.4 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from the three-point line.
Exactly how much trade value he has right now remains to be seen. Kuminga went down with a minor left knee injury against the Dallas Mavericks on January 22, which has complicated the matter of trading him just a bit.
Where Do Things Stand Regarding a Potential Jonathan Kuminga Trade?
Since the offseason, the rumors surrounding Kuminga have been quite loud. Plenty of teams have been connected as potential trade destinations if the Warriors were to decide to move him.
Despite all of the offseason rumors, Golden State worked out a two-year, $46.8 million contract extension with the young forward. On that contract, he’s still easy to trade and his new team would feel more comfortable that he wouldn’t be a one-year rental.
Among the list of teams who have had interest in Kuminga are the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, and Portland Trail Blazers. There are other franchises who have had reported interest in Kuminga as well.
If the Warriors get to a point where they’re ready to openly start shopping Kuminga on the trade market, they shouldn’t have to look too long to find a deal.
Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding Golden State as the deadline comes closer. The Warriors could use a move following the Butler injury and Kuminga seems to be on his way out of town.
