A dramatic chase unfolded on Wednesday morning, starting in Cedar Hill and ending in Dallas. The chase began when Katie Jones, a 60-year-old Dallas resident, leaned out of a moving vehicle to fire shots at Cedar Hill and Duncanville PD while attempting to escape.
Multiple Robberies Linked to the Suspect
According to Cedar Hill police, officers had been attempting to arrest Jones for an earlier armed robbery that occurred on Sunday at a Metro PCS store on Uptown Boulevard. It’s alleged that Jones escaped with money and merchandise from this robbery.
While arresting her, police found evidence linking her to not just the Metro PCS robbery but also an earlier incident at Chase Bank and another robbery in Duncanville. The Acura she was seen driving during these incidents tied her directly to the crimes.
An Unusual Profile for a Serial Robber
If convicted, Jones will defy the typical profile of American bank robbers. Unlike her peers who are predominately male, Jones stands out due to her age and gender. The most recent statistics from the FBI reveal that the majority of bank robbers are men. Yet, Jones’s actions suggest an exception.
The Intense Pursuit Ends in Dallas
The pursuit covered several miles and captured the attention of multiple local media outlets. As it reached Dallas, bystanders witnessed Jones leaning out of her moving vehicle to shoot at pursuing officers. Despite the unexpected turn of events, authorities managed to bring the chase to a halt.
Outcome and Current Condition
Katie Jones is currently in critical condition following the pursuit. After she fired at pursuing officers, they returned fire, hitting her before making the arrest. She was transported to a nearby hospital immediately after.
Witnesses have described the chase as intense and bewildering. They recounted seeing police cars racing through streets trying to stop Jones. One bystander said: It was like something out of an action movie; we couldn’t believe what we were seeing.
