The Green Bay Packers have received a not-so- subtle message from one of their veteran additions about the newest cornerback trade target to hit the market.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Indianapolis Colts and veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II “mutually have agreed to seek a trade” ahead of the 2026 NFL draft, signaling that the 2021 Pro Bowler’s time in Indy is likely over after nine seasons.
“Moore is entering the last year of his contract, and both sides feel it is time to explore a trade,” Schefter wrote on X on April 10.
Moore — who turns 31 in August — has thrived as a nickelback for the Colts throughout his nine seasons with the Colts. In 132 career games, he has tallied 649 total tackles, 68 pass deflections and 21 interceptions, including four that he returned for touchdowns.
Given the Packers’ cornerback needs, a player of Moore’s caliber could appeal to them. New veteran linebacker Zaire Franklin — whom the Packers acquired in a trade with the Colts earlier this offseason — also seems to agree, teasing the possibility of the Packers making a deal to acquire Moore with a picture of the two ex-teammates shaking hands.
Packers Could Trade for Kenny Moore at Cheap Price
Moore remains an experienced and talented defender with more gas left in the tank for his NFL career. Like Franklin, though, he is no longer an appropriate fit for the defense that Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has been building since he was hired in January 2025, one that uses more varied looks and thrives on its unpredictability.
The good thing for the Packers? That could mean the Colts are willing to part ways with him for a reasonable price, as they did with Franklin when they traded him in March.
The Packers dealt defensive tackle Colby Wooden — a 2023 fourth-round pick — to the Colts in exchange for Franklin, whose departure helped Indianapolis get cap compliant. While the Packers may not have another player to trade for Moore, a mid-to-late-round selection might be enough to seal the deal, given Moore’s age and expiring contract.
The question is whether the Packers feel Moore would fit better in Jonathan Gannon’s new defensive system. They are already taking a reasonable risk on Franklin, who had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2025 in pass coverage and as a reliable tackler. They also have a capable slot defender in safety Javon Bullard, a 2024 second-rounder.
Maybe the Packers could justify adding Moore’s veteran experience if the Colts are open to a pick swap for him, but the fit is not as evident as it was for Franklin back in March.
Packers Could Wait Until Day 3 of NFL Draft for Trade
If the Packers want to trade for Moore, there is little reason for them to rush to make a deal with the Colts unless they have a sense that other potential suitors are circling him.
Instead, the more logical approach is for the Packers to wait until after Day 2 of the NFL draft to see where they have landed at the cornerback position and then decide if it suits them to trade a Day 3 selection to the Colts to add Moore’s experience to their roster.
The Packers — who do not have a first-round pick — should have some quality options available at the cornerback position in the second and third rounds. ESPN’s Matt Miller has reported that former San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson, a potential target for them at No. 52 overall, “has plenty of fans in the team’s scouting department.”
In the same second-round range, Arizona State’s Keith Abney II, Ohio State’s Davison Igbinosun or Miami’s Keionte Scott are also options who could possibly start on Day 1.
The Packers have also visited with a handful of cornerback prospects who are likelier to come off the board on Day 3 of the draft, bringing in Texas A&M’s Will Lee III and Stephen F. Austin’s Charles Demmings, among others, for top 30 visits this spring.
At the very least, Moore’s trade availability will give the Packers an option in their back pocket if they are not happy with their results at cornerback coming into the third day, assuming that another team hasn’t made a move to add Moore for themselves first.
