“Mean Girl” Podcast Drama
Barstool Sports laid off over 100 employees after losing gaming licenses in several US states in late 2023 – many commented that they wanted Alex and Jordyn to lose their jobs after learning about the layoffs. When the duo returned to work on 5 September 2023, they uploaded an X (formerly Twitter) video captioned ‘When you show up to work Monday not fired even though all the Stoolies wish you were.’ The video featured them smiling as they triumphantly walked through the office door. Most of the employees who had been laid off, including the blogger Chris Klemmer, (who was almost fired by the firm’s founder, Dave Portnoy, for tweeting ‘This is such a sh–ty and tone-deaf tweet’ in response to Jordyn and Alex’s video) took offense to their tweet, which prompted Jordyn to delete the post and apologize to them. Nonetheless, this didn’t stop other Barstool Sports employees from voicing their discontentment.
A few days later on 12 September that year, Barstool reported that they would be laying off the ‘Mean Girl’ hosts; it’s not clear whether the duo was fired because of the drama. Portnoy shortly afterward addressed the issue, stating that the duo had left the firm because he’d decided not to renew their contracts. In October 2023, Woodruff joined Just Media House to serve as a Chief Operating Officer, after her tenure at Barstool Sports ended.
