While it can be considered very common for anime heroes to lay down their lives for the greater good, there are some characters who can make difficult and painful decisions that lead to sacrificing the lives of others when needed, like Satoru Gojo and Levi Ackerman. However, the heroes who carry the dream of protecting everyone around them cannot even imagine going down that path.
These very dreamers are the saviors who can sacrifice everything, including their lives, to protect others, even when the odds are not in their favor or they gain little to nothing from doing so. This recklessly heroic quality of these characters makes them disregard their own lives.
10 Tanjiro Kamado’s Compassion Gets The Better Of Him
Demon Slayer
Tanjiro Kamado is an exceptionally compassionate individual who cannot help but feel empathetic towards everyone, demons and humans alike. He is shown to care very little about his own life, especially when it comes to protecting his sister, Nezuko, who was turned into a demon. However, that is where his extreme empathy strives from.
The boy cannot help but notice that his sister would have been in the same position as the demons who attacked him if it wasn’t for Giyu Tomioka, Sakonji Urokodaki, and every other being who has been helping him in his journey to cure her. As a result, his compassion makes him gamble his own life for the sake of others.
9 Krista Lenz Never Cared About Herself
Attack On Titan
Krista Lenz, or rather Historia Reiss, cared little about her well-being from the very beginning. She laid down her life to protect Ymir and the rest of her comrades on many occasions. Although many characters in Attack on Titan fall under this category, what’s different about Krista is that she never valued her own life due to her tragic past and was seemingly happy to put an end to her life.
Krista did manage to find a new purpose that motivated her when she became the Queen of Paradis. However, as the events in Season 4 progressed, she again ended up disregarding the value of her life, winding up in the same place she began.
8 Izuku Midoriya Jumps Into Action Without Thinking
My Hero Academia
From rescuing Katsuki Bakugo from the notorious League of Villains to saving Eri from the cruel hands of Overhaul, Izuku Midoriya has rarely cared about his own well-being when it comes to protecting others. The young boy always seems to follow in the footsteps of All Might while adding a unique touch to the role in his own way.
However, Midoriya has been reckless about his own life from the very beginning, just like when he tried to save Bakugo from The Sludge Villain. Midoriya’s tendency to move without thinking when someone needs help is what made him worthy of being All Might’s successor in the first place, but it’s also something that classifies him as utterly reckless towards his own life.
7 Koro-Sensei Put His Life In Peril Every Second Of The Day
Assassination Classroom
Koro-Sensei could have been living a long life if he had focused on curing his condition rather than teaching Class 3-E. However, after losing the love of his life, Aguri Yukimura, he had little left to look forward to in life and was prepared to die fulfilling her wishes.
Koro-Sensei overtook her responsibility as the homeroom teacher of the End Class in Kunugigaoka Junior High and was able to make a difference in the life of her students. He put his own life in peril consistently but ensured the safety of her students at all costs, ultimately becoming the change that Yukimura saw in him from the start.
6 Yuji Itadori Frequently Puts His Life In Jeopardy
Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Itadori has always been the kind of individual who puts the needs of others before himself. It’s safe to say that the 15-year-old has little to no regard for his own life. He doesn’t hesitate to put his life in jeopardy to save someone and ends up fighting hard to fulfill his unprecedented dream of directing people to a proper death.
Although the demon inside of him, Sukuna, makes sure he suffers the most in his path to achieve his dream, Itadori manages to find his way around the dilemma by putting himself into utterly dangerous situations. The best example remains him swapping with Sukuna in a literal heartless body to save Megumi Fushiguro.
5 Naruto Uzumaki Can Happily Die For The Greater Good
Naruto
The first time the fans saw Naruto Uzumaki put his life in danger was when he fought the Demon of the Hidden Mist to save Sasuke Uchiha. The incident showcased his endless courage, the lines he can cross for the people he cares for, and his true potential as the protagonist of the story.
Naruto went on to save the village that considered him a pariah from the beginning numerous times, despite their animosity toward him. Not only that, but he also protected the entire world from Otsutsuki Goddess Kaguya by putting his own life in peril, proving that he can happily sacrifice himself for the greater good.
4 Eren Jaeger Accepted His End From The Beginning
Attack On Titan
If one thing has remained consistent about Eren Jaeger throughout Attack on Titan, it’s his disregard for his own life. From unwaveringly dreaming about joining the dangerous Scout Regiment to sacrificing himself to save Armin from a Titan, he has rarely hesitated when it comes to renouncing his right to live for the larger things in life.
The boy has passionately followed a path that results in certain death from the very beginning. Although his status as a hero is debatable, his altruism towards his people and devotion to attain freedom for Paradis is unquestionably pristine and worth sacrificing his life — at least from his own perspective.
3 All Might Never Gave Up On The World
My Hero Academia
From being a little kid with a dream of becoming the ultimate Symbol of Peace to actually striding a path that led him to his destination, All Might is rightfully the best Pro Hero in My Hero Academia. However, from the very beginning, he seemed to care very little about his own well-being.
The Plus Ultra hero kept fighting notorious baddies even though his health was exceedingly deteriorating with every battle. He understood his significance and responsibility as the Symbol of Peace and refused to back out, even if it meant his demise. Sir Nighteye predicted All Might’s certain death if he kept continuing his route, but he never stopped fighting for the sake of others.
2 Kyojuro Rengoku Never Let Anyone Die On His Watch
Demon Slayer
Kyojuro Rengoku put his life in danger many times for the sake of others, and fans absolutely adore him for this very reason. He managed to save everyone in his path until the moment he died, which speaks volumes about his values, beliefs, and overall capability.
Being the only Hashira who had never let anyone die on his watch, he cared little about his own life, and it’s heartbreaking that fans lost such an amazing and wholesome character so early in the show. However, it’s safe to say that even after his demise, he will continue to inspire others. That’s just the kind of character he is.
1 Mumen Rider Possesses Boundless Courage
One-Punch Man
If there’s anything Mumen Rider has that even Saitama does not, it’s boundless courage and utter disregard for his own life. Throughout the show, he can be seen putting his life in danger at every instance. This Class-C hero has a very simple mantra: as soon as he sees anyone who needs saving, he instantly jumps into action, not at all caring about his well-being or success rate.
Despite being a regular cyclist without any superpowers, Mumen Rider never backs down, even if all the odds in the world are against him — and fans love him for it. For the tiniest glimmer of hope, he gives his all to make the world a better place for everyone and inspires others in unimaginable ways.
