10 Female Characters Who Deserve More Screen Time In My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia’s cast is so extensive that it’d be impossible for every character to have equal screen time. If that happened, the series would be even longer than it already is. Still, fans would love to see more of their favorite heroes and villains getting more time in the spotlight. My Hero Academia’s female characters, in particular, are often placed on the back burner.

Though many female heroes take up high-ranking spots on the hero billboard chart, they don’t get as much time as their male counterparts. There are plenty of female characters that My Hero Academia fans would love to see more of.

Updated on December 23rd by Sarah Martin: With the Paranormal Liberation War in full swing, My Hero Academia’s sixth season presents some glaringly obvious mishandlings of its female cast. We’ve added a few more of My Hero Academia’s greatest female students who deserve way more screen time than they received.

This article contains spoilers from the My Hero Academia manga.

12/12 Eri’s Potential Was Wasted

Eri from My Hero Academia.

Eri’s Rewind quirk was one of the most overpowered introduced to My Hero Academia. Unfortunately, she was never quite utilized in the plot. Though she did help Mirio get his quirk back, fans never saw the process. They just had to accept that Mirio miraculously appeared on the battlefield during the Paranormal Liberation War.

Eri could have been a game changer for My Hero Academia’s plot. Instead, she’s essentially thrown into cameos as a cute mascot and occasional plot armor for the series rather than adding anything of value.

11/12 Lady Nagant Could Have Been The Most Interesting Female Villain

Lady Nagant and Hawks from My Hero Academia.

Lady Nagant was introduced shortly after the Paranormal Liberation War in the manga. Her past is intertwined with Hawks’ brutal upbringing. Raised by the same corrupt government organization, Lady Nagant saw no point in following a heroic path and defected. The Public Safety Commission groomed Hawks as her replacement.

Lady Nagant could have been the most interesting female villain in the series, but she only stayed around for a few chapters before her defeat. Lady Nagant’s case is the ultimate example of My Hero Academia’s mishandling of female characters. Every time an interesting one is introduced, they’re either sidelined or defeated instantly.

10/12 Mirko Deserved More Screen Time Before The Paranormal Liberation War

Mirko Attacks in My Hero Academia Season 6 Premiere

Mirko was introduced during the hero billboard chart show, but she didn’t get much screen time until her big fight against several Nomu during the Paranormal Liberation War. Fans wish she had more screen time before that arc because her rabbit-like Quirk is one of My Hero Academia’s coolest.

Plus, she’s a fiery hero who could have had entertaining interactions with plenty of characters if she was granted more time in the limelight. Regardless, fans love Mirko’s hero concept, character design, and overall presence in My Hero Academia.

9/12 Cathleen Bate Is The Number One Pro-Hero In The United States

Star And Stripe, or Cathleen Bate, introduced American Pro-Heroes to My Hero Academia. She’s a huge fan of All Might’s and went to Japan to help the heroes fight villains. She faced off against All For One possessing Shigaraki before arriving in Japan, but her sacrifices weren’t forgotten.

Unfortunately, her time in the series was very short. That said, Cathleen impacted the story greatly and helped the heroes get a lead on finally taking All For One down. Some fans feel she was killed off too quickly, while others feel she lasted for the right amount of time.

8/12 Thirteen Could Have Been One Of The Coolest Pro-Heroes

Thirteen in My Hero Academia.

Thirteen only made a brief appearance during Class 1-A’s first showdown against the League of Villains during the U.S.J. arc. Thirteen’s Quirk, Black Hole, was useful during the fight. Unfortunately, she was injured and taken out of commission early in the series. Fans haven’t seen much of her since.

She did make another cameo in one of the light novels, School Briefs. In the light novel, Thirteen worked with other pro-heroes to make Eri’s first real Christmas the best one yet. Unfortunately, the light novels aren’t really considered canon by most of the fandom, so Thirteen’s painfully short legacy annoys fans to this day.

7/12 Mei Deserves Her Own Spinoff

Mei Hatsume from My Hero Academia.

Mei Hatsume is one of the hardest-working students at U.A. High. As a member of the support course, Mei is always toiling away in her workshop making new support items for other heroes. Though many of her inventions are bizarre, impractical, and even hazardous, Mei’s enthusiasm is endearing, so her gadgets are forgivable.

Mei’s exciting adventures in the workshop could make for an entertaining spinoff. She’s already made a few appearances in My Hero Academia’s light novel, School Briefs, when one of her inventions got lost in the forest. Her antics may annoy her classmates, but fans love Mei.

6/12 Magne Was Killed Too Soon

Magne conjures electricity in My Hero Academia.

Magne’s death left a lasting impact on the League of Villains. Killed by Overhaul, Magne was one of the League’s strongest melee fighters with her Quirk, Magnetism. Magnetism was a powerful Quirk that, if Magne lasted longer in the series, could have led to some exciting fight scenes.

Unfortunately, Magne tested her luck against Overhaul and paid the price for it. The members of the League still talk about Magne to this day, expressing anger toward Overhaul for the friend he stole from them. Plus, her death had a lasting impact on Twice’s psyche since he invited Overhaul to meet the League, leading to her untimely demise.

5/12 Ryukyu’s Time With Uraraka & Tsuyu Could Be An Entire Spinoff

Ryukyu with her hand up in a stadium in My Hero Academia.

Ranked number nine on the hero billboard chart, Ryukyu took Uraraka and Tsuyu under her wing around the same time as when the main trio set off to work with Endeavor. Obviously, they didn’t get as much screen time as Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Endeavor.

That said, they still played important roles during the Shie Hassaikai raid and worked together since. It’d be entertaining to see a spinoff about Tsuyu and Uraraka’s time with Ryukyu. She’s already appeared in Vigilantes, so perhaps there’s more to her backstory than fans initially thought.

4/12 Kendo Is Class 1-B’s Backbone

Itsuka Kendo in My Hero Academia.

Without someone to keep Monoma in check, class 1-B would have been in deep trouble ages ago. Kendo is always there to act like an older sister for her more chaotic classmates and knock Monoma into line when he’s getting out of hand. However, there’s a lot more to Kendo than just babysitting Monoma.

It’d be cool to see more of her. Maybe she could make another appearance in Team-Up Missions so fans could see more of her and Yaoyorozu’s friendly rivalry while they work together. The duo got the short end of the stick in terms of hero internships, so maybe they could get a second chance with a different hero.

3/12 Nana Shimura’s Important Role In The Story Is Easily Forgotten

Gran Torino and Nana Shimura

In the middle of all the action and chaos that ensues between the heroes and villains, it’s easy to forget that the series’ main foe is connected to the protagonist. Nana Shimura was the 7th inheritor of One For All, and she’s also Shigaraki’s grandmother. She was also All Might’s mentor and communicates to Deku through One For All.

It’d be interesting to see a spinoff that entirely delves into Nana’s time with All Might. It may reveal more about the former Symbol of Peace and his teaching methods. Plus, it’d give fans more insight into One For All’s origins and perhaps even more about Shigaraki’s volatile family situation.

2/12 Some Of Tsuyu’s Best Moments Occurred In Filler Episodes

Tsuyu Asui on Selkie’s ship from My Hero Academia.

Tsuyu has one of the series’ most unique Quirks and most likable personalities. Unfortunately, she’s only had time in the spotlight during filler episodes. It’d be nice to see her have a more important role in pivotal fights instead of being the voice of reason among class 1-A’s bickering.

Tsuyu’s quirk could have been utilized in many more fights, but fans have only gotten to see her embark on rescue missions. Her true potential hasn’t really been used during any major fights outside of training.

1/12 Nejire Gets Less Screen Time Than The Other Two Members Of U.A.’s Big Three

Nejire is cheerful in My Hero Academia.

Compared to Tamaki and Mirio, Nejire doesn’t get as much screen time despite being one of the members of U.A. High’s big three third-year students. Her Quirk may not be as battle-oriented as her peers, but it’s still flashy and has proven useful in battle.

Nejire’s Quirk has the potential to literally blow the audience and villains alike away with its strength, but it’s been underutilized. Her biggest Quirk display was during the beauty pageant and a few minor scenes in other episodes, but she’s never really had her own moment in the spotlight.
