Happy Friday the 13th! I hope this day brings you some sort of joy instead of worry and fret about being unlucky or superstitious. This weekend Netflix has many of the best horror shows to keep you entertained and we have a great list of suggestions for you. 

Netflix’s top 10 TV shows list looks similar to last week, with Outer Banks and All American in the same 1 and 2 spots as the previous week. Virgin River and Manifest remain on the list as well. Hit and Run, Untold Malice at the Palace and Cocaine Cowboys: The King of Miami are new to the list. 

This week, we will give you a list of horror series for your Friday the 13th binge-watching. It only seems fitting as most people associate this date with the Friday the 13th horror films.

Netflix does have a great list of horror films, but this list will be some of the best horror shows available on the streamer.

5 best horror shows on Netflix

Netflix has many great horror series like Supernatural, American Horror Story, Z Nation and Stranger Things. Below are others you may be less familiar with but are definitely worth the time to binge.

Brand New Cherry Flavor 

The horror drama Brand New Cherry Flavor is a Netflix original that was released this weekend. Prepare yourself for a supernatural rollercoaster of a series.

A young aspiring director moves to LA to fulfill her dreams of making a movie. She trusts the wrong guy, and her dream becomes a nightmare full of creatures like supernatural kittens and zombies.

Set in the ’90s, the series has a great vibe and wavers on a fine line between the dream state and reality. The series stars Rosa Salazar, Catherine Keener, Eric Lange, Manny Jacinto, Jeff Ward, Hannah Levien, Leland Orser and Patrick Fischler.

Ash vs. Evil Dead 

Thirty years later, Ash Williams is at it again in the series Ash vs. Evil DeadThis series has three seasons and is what you would expect in the Evil Dead franchise series.

Bruce Campbell reprises his role as Ash, who is suffering from survivor’s guilt and PTSD hasn’t done much since returning from 1300 AD in Army of Darkness. We are reintroduced to him as he works at the local “Value Stop,” lives in a trailer and drinks in bars alone. Unsurprisingly, he will once again have to face the undead with his new co-workers Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) by his side.

The series also stars Jill Marie Jones, Michelle Hurd, Ted Raimi, Pepi Sonuga, Arielle Carver-O’Neill, Lindsay Farris and Lucy Lawless.

Penny Dreadful

The series Penny Dreadful consists of three seasons that are all available on Netflix. You know the stories of Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and other terrifying literary characters. This series features those characters in a new narrative.

Set in the dark corners of Victorian London, this psychological thriller features characters from 19th Century Victorian Gothic fiction. You will recognize characters from Dorian Gray, Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and be introduced to new complex characters as well.

This series includes Reeve Carney, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper, Danny Sapani, Harry Treadaway, Josh Hartnett, Helen McCrory, Simon Russell Beale, Patti LuPone and Wes Studi.

The title Penny Dreadful is a derogatory name for these fictional writings coined by the people who felt this type of literature was inferior and beneath other works. These stories were actually very popular and could be purchased for a penny.

The Haunting anthology series

Mike Flannigan is the creator of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, both Netflix originals. Both series received many accolades for the original storylines, casting and overall horror themes.

The Haunting series share many of the same actors, cast and crew but are two different stories with different characters.

Hill House is told in two different timelines and is loosely based on Shirley Jackson’s novel. Experiences haunt five adult siblings from their time living at Hill House when they were children. The story unfolds between their present-day lives and flashbacks of their childhood.

Bly Manor is based on Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw. A young au pair is hired by a man to care for his niece and nephew at Bly Estate. Soon after her arrival, she starts to witness apparitions that haunt the property.

Both series are outstanding additions to Netflix’s best horror shows list.

Scream: The TV Series

The Scream films are some of the best slasher films out there. When this TV series was announced, many fans were not keen on this concept. Scream the series has proven to be a very great anthology of episodes worthy of the franchise.

The first two seasons are set in the town of Lakewood, where the Lakewood Slasher is terrorizing and killing the citizens. Emma Duval finds she is the killer’s focus, which puts all of her friends and family in danger.

The third season focuses on a local football star Deion Elliot from Atlanta. Events from his past torment him, and Ghostface uses that against him while also going on a killing spree. Scream is a great series with major slasher vibes that hold to the original films’ humor and pop culture dialogue.
