We’re officially in the final weekend of August 2021. Summer is winding down. Fall is closing in. And, Netflix has a ton of good shows and movies coming next month, including some Netflix originals.

There are some good shows trending on Netflix right now, including Bake Squad, Grace and Frankie, Stranger Things, Goosebumps and 30 Rock.

This week, Netflix released some new series, including Motel Makeover, Open Your Eyes, Post Mortem: No One Dies in Skarnes, EDENS ZERO, D.P., I Heart Arlo, and Titletown High.

Best shows on Netflix

Clickbait

One of Netflix’s newest series was just released this week and is already sitting at the top spot on the Netflix Top 10 TV shows. Clickbait is a look into the dark side of social media and the internet.

This series uses misdirection to keep the viewer on the edge of their seat, trying to guess who is really the bad guy. Adrian Grenier plays Nick Brewer, an average family guy who suddenly appears online in a video where he looks to be badly beaten, holding a sign that says, “I abuse women. At 5 million views, I die.”

Also starring Zoe Kazan, Betty Gabriel, Pheonix Raei, Elizabeth Alexander, Abraham Lim, Jessie Collins, Ian Meadows, Steve Mouzakis, Daniel Henshall, Motell Foster, Jaylin Fletcher and Cameron Engels.

It is a great twist on a whodunit-type story and will keep you guessing throughout.

Manifest

If you haven’t heard of Manifest, you may live underground without internet access and aren’t reading this article anyway. This series has been amazingly successful, and for some reason, NBC hasn’t renewed it. Fans have gone crazy wondering why, and now, it looks like Netflix will most likely pick the series up for season 4.

Currently, you can view seasons 1-3 of Manifest on Netflix. This supernatural drama centers around passengers on a commercial flight who suddenly reappear after being presumed dead for five years. After being given a second chance, some passengers start to experience unexplained voices and visions; they realize they may be destined for something greater.

Netflix surprisingly released season 3 this week so that subscribers can watch all available seasons now.

The Chair

Another newly released series, The Chair, follows the first woman to be hired as the chair at the fictional Pembroke University.

The series stars Sandra Oh as Ji-Yoon Kim, newly hired chair of the English Department, embroiled in scandal because of a viral video by Professor Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass). The university hires Kim to shakes things up and show they are diverse, as she is one of the few staff members of color and inclusive because she is a woman. Little does she know she is taking on way more than she bargained for.

There also seems to be a romance blooming between Kim and Dobson, making for an even more interesting dynamic. That compounded with the fact that she is also a single other of a precocious 7-year-old adopted daughter.

Season one only has six episodes, so hopefully, we get a second season. The trailer gives you a great feel of what to expect from the series.

Family Reunion

The Netflix original series Family Reunion returns this week with its fourth season. The McKellan’s are back with new challenges to face.

We saw the family move from Seattle to Georgia to be closer to their family in season one. They experience much culture shock, which allows for a lot of humor at their expense. The south moves at a much slower pace than they are used to, church services are much longer, the humidity is a new experience, and all the family closeness will take some time to get accustomed to.

Starring Tia Mowry, Anthony Alabi, Talia Jackson, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Cameron J. Wright, Jordyn Raya James and Loretta Devine.

The Defeated

Netflix has released season 1 of The Defeated, a historical thriller. The series is a detective series set in post-WWII Berlin.

The Defeated, originally titled Shadowplay, follows Max McLaughlin, an American cop who helps create the police force after WWII in Berlin. It is a chaotic time dealing with the aftermath of the war, and McLaughlin experiences internal opposition as he tries to complete the task he was hired to do.

The ultimate goal is to take down Engelmacher, the Capone of post-war Berlin. Max also has a secret agenda of seeking out his missing brother.

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Michel C. Hall, Logan Marshall-Green, Sebastian Koch, Nina Hoss, Tuppence Middleton and  Mala Emde.
