Obi-Wan best arcs Clone Wars list Zygerrian Slavers Shadow Conspiracy Star Wars: The Clone Wars

In addition to being a major character in A New Hope and one of the three protagonists of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi also receives a huge amount of screentime in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Although often overshadowed by characters like Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, no small number of story arcs and episodes focus on Obi-Wan.

Giving Obi-Wan some development and focus compared to the more static treatment he receives in the prequel trilogy, these storylines put Obi-Wan in unexpected situations. The storylines also take a look at previously-unseen aspects of his character, revealing significant depth. From Clone Wars‘ first season to its last, there is quality content involving Obi-Wan Kenobi.

7 The Mandalore Arc Shows What Could Have Been

One of the most significant characters to Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars is the Duchess Satine Kryze, the ruler of Mandalore and former romantic flame of Obi-Wan’s. The two have significant history, having been so romantically-entangled that Satine even made Obi-Wan consider leaving the Jedi Order.

The Mandalore Arc in season 2 shows Obi-Wan and Satine reuniting after years apart when Satine is threatened for trying to maintain Mandalore’s neutrality in the Clone Wars. Viewers get to see Obi-Wan incensed, bitter, indecisive, and emotionally-pained in a way that few arcs reveal, putting some cracks in his status as the perfect Jedi.

6 The Mortis Arc Gives Obi-Wan Some Good Moments

Anakin Skywalker tends to get more focus than Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars, but they also share time in plenty of arcs. This lets them play off of one another and reveal aspects of each other’s character. The thrust of the Mortis Arc is on Anakin learning of and trying to avert his destiny as Darth Vader, but Obi-Wan has his share of screentime as well.

Although the implications for Obi-Wan’s faith in meeting the physical embodiments of the Force aren’t explored, the arc still serves as good character exploration. This is especially true regarding the depth of Obi-Wan’s love for Anakin and Ahsoka. In addition, it’s widely-considered as one of the best arcs of The Clone Wars overall, and is well worth a watch.

5 The Zygerrian Slavers Arc Tests Obi-Wan’s Resolve

Obi-Wan is commonly portrayed as the ideal Jedi, being a keen philosopher and diplomat who is an expert, defense-focused warrior. However, some of his more interesting moments in The Clone Wars force him to question his beliefs or methods. Few story arcs do that better than the Zygerrian Slavers Arc.

Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex go undercover to investigate the planet Zygerria and its slavery, which sees Obi-Wan captured and forced into slavery. A sadistic warden makes it his personal mission to break Obi-Wan by killing other slaves when Obi-Wan attempts to act like a Jedi. It’s a harrowing arc, and one that puts Obi-Wan through the wringer like no other.

4 The Lost One Is A Standalone Episode Putting Obi-Wan Back In The Role Of Detective

The most interesting plotline in Attack Of The Clones is Obi-Wan’s solo detective story as he attempts to follow the trail of Jango Fett and uncovers the burgeoning Clone army. This side of him is rarely explored, but makes a comeback in the episode “The Lost One.” Unlike most of The Clone Wars, which is heavily serialized and arc-based, this episode is standalone.

The arc shows off plenty of Obi-Wan’s investigatory skills as he attempts, alongside Anakin and Yoda, to follow the trail of the deceased master Sifo-Dyas and reveal the origins of the Clones. While he is unsuccessful, it is still a nice look at an underused part of Obi-Wan’s character, and something fans hope to see more of in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

3 Darth Maul’s Return Reignites An Ancient Rivalry

The films cut short the rivalry between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul by having the latter seemingly killed off at the end of their first duel. In The Clone Wars, however, Maul is revealed to have survived and to have become even more powerful, obsessed with getting revenge on Obi-Wan.

Although the Darth Maul’s Return Arc in The Clone Wars‘ third season focuses more on its title character, Obi-Wan factors heavily into it as part of Maul’s motivations. Obi-Wan appears in a major capacity in its final episode “Revenge.” By showing Obi-Wan in the heat of one of his most significant rivalries, as well as forcing him into an uneasy alliance with a former foe, it has a lot to recommend it for Obi-Wan fans.

2 Obi-Wan Undercover Shows Obi-Wan’s Underhanded Side

Obi-Wan holds true to the tenets of the Jedi, believing in diplomacy and negotiation with other means serving as a last resort. In the Obi-Wan Undercover Arc, he has to make use of entirely different methods, showing a deceptive and underhanded side that pushes his morality to its limits.

Faking his own death and stealing the identity of bounty hunter Rako Hardeen, the arc shows Obi-Wan attempting to maintain his cover amongst other criminals and Separatists. It also shows the unintended consequences that Obi-Wan’s deception has on characters like Anakin and Ahsoka. One of his more morally-gray storylines, it may be a hint at what viewers can expect in Obi-Wan Kenobi, which also shows him living under an assumed identity.

1 The Shadow Conspiracy Arc Is The Pinnacle Of Obi-Wan’s Story

Bringing together two of Obi-Wan’s most significant relationships in The Clone Wars, the Shadow Conspiracy Arc has Duchess Satine Kryze threatened by Maul. Maul sets a plot in motion to seize control of Mandalore. Maul’s ambitions have another part, however, as one piece of a plan to break Obi-Wan.

When Obi-Wan defies orders and comes to Satine’s aid, Maul toys with the two of them before he murders her in front of Obi-Wan. It’s one of the most raw and emotional moments for the character. The arc is considered one of The Clone Wars’ all-time greatest arcs and a series of episodes that show off Obi-Wan’s character at its best and worst.
