Another Friday the 13th is coming up and we’re getting in the spooky mood by compiling a list of scary movies perfectly suited for this superstitious day.
From classic slasher movies like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street to more recent paranormal hits like The Conjuring and Ouija: Origin of Evil, there are plenty of scary films streaming on Netflix that will make the ideal movie binge for this weekend.
Best Netflix movies to watch on Friday the 13th
Halloween is still several months away, but Friday the 13th always feels like a special, extra Halloween day to me. I can’t help but get in the horror mood when this day comes around and it only happens once in a while so take advantage and plan a terrifying movie marathon!
Friday the 13th (2009)
Obviously the best movie you can watch on this day is a movie based on the day. Unfortunately, the 1980 film is not streaming on the platform, but you can watch the 2009 remake starring Danielle Panabaker, Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo and Derek Mears.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
If you didn’t get the chance to watch the latest entry into the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise when it released on Netflix earlier this year, now is the time to check in on the chainsaw-wielding madman that is Leatherface. Netflix also has several additional movies in the franchise streaming, inclulding the 2003 remake starring Jessica Biel, Texas Chainsaw 3D and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
Normally, I would never recommend this movie because I’m not a big Rob Zombie fan, but it’s the only movie from the Halloween franchise currently streaming on Netflix. It’s not terrible and some people even love this version more than the original, so if you’re interested in watching films to put you in a spooky mood this is a great pick.
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Jason, Michael and Leatherface all have at least one movie currently on Netflix, so of course Freddy has to join the fun, too! The original Nightmare on Elm Street (and the 2010 remake) are both available. Freddy vs. Jason is also streaming.
The Ring (2002)
When it comes to superstitions and creepy, unexplained urban legends, The Ring is one of the best examples. If someone gave you a videotape and told you it carried a curse that would kill you in seven days? Would you believe it? A remake of the Japanese film Ring, The Ring is a horror classic.
It Follows (2014)
Another movie that will make you feel uneasy, It Follows is a great horror flick about a supernatural entity transmitted via sex, following each person in the chain and viciously murdering them. After watching, you’ll find yourself side-eying everyone you see walking slowly toward you!
Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
Mike Flanagan fans should not miss out on this creepy, underrated horror movie. When a woman introduces a Ouija board into her family’s seance business, she brings something dark and malevolent into their home. Elizabeth Reaser, Lin Shaye, Lulu Wilson, Annalise Basso and Henry Thomas star.
The Conjuring (2013)
Netflix has a few movies from The Conjuring franchise available, including the original 2013 movie, the sequel and one of the spinoffs, Annabelle: Creation. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were real demonologists and paranormal investigators.
Which movies do you plan to watch this Friday the 13th?
