Sometimes, often, where the legacy media is concerned, the only proper reaction to a story is to point and laugh. Of course, you don’t get any more legacy media than CBS News, the most legacy media that ever legacy media-ed, and recently that network covered a “groundswell” of students at Florida A&M University who were opposing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The catch? This was a “groundswell” of ten. Yes, ten.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
Question: How large does a protest have to be for the liberal media to consider it a “groundswell”?
Answer: If it’s a leftist protest, you can have less than ten.
Consider the case of Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida A&M University. On Wednesday’s CBS Evening News Plus, anchor John Dickerson pushed this story:
JOHN DICKERSON: Tonight, Florida A&M, the state’s only public historically black college, is involved in a dispute over diversity, equity and inclusion policies and the selection of its next president. Students and alumni say the governor’s involvement reflects a broader effort to reduce state support for diversity programs.
Now, let’s set aside for the moment the observation that having a “historically black college” is actually racist – imagine the outcry if CBS News described a school somewhere else as a “historically white college.” These young skulls full of mush (I mean the students, not CBS News, although it may well apply to both) are protesting in favor of DEI. Can we claim a groundswell of support for eliminating DEI in hiring and education? I mean, we could probably turn out more than ten people in favor of eliminating DEI programs.
Oh, wait, it may have only been seven.
He turned to reporter Manuel Bojorquez for the DEI tussle in Tallahassee:
MANUEL BOJORQUEZ: The meeting was contentious….But the board of governors approved the controversial nominee, Marva Johnson, to be president of Florida A&M University….But there’s been a groundswell of students and alumni of the historically black college opposed to her selection.
The problem? CBS only showed about seven protesters! WCTV, the CBS affiliate in Tallahassee, began its story: “At least 10 Florida A&M University students gathered on campus at Eternal Flame Wednesday morning to rally against Marva Johnson, who was elected as the university’s next president last month.”
Were three of them having a cigarette break?
I won’t speculate where the remaining three skulls full of mush were, or what they may have been doing.

It is perhaps belaboring the obvious to note that this isn’t a “groundswell.” It’s not even a molehill. It’s barely visible, like a single grain of sand in a perfectly maintained concrete parking lot.
Look, it’s abundantly clear that the legacy media in general and CBS News in particular aren’t even trying to hide their bias anymore. That’s fine; all of us in the alternative media, an example of which you are reading right now, know that we have our positions in large part because the legacy media has grown so nakedly partisan, so tired, so disreputable, that they have given rise to, well, us.
Still, one would think that someone, somewhere in CBS News would have had to stones to say, “Look, guys, there are only seven kids out there holding signs. That’s not a groundswell. It’s barely an ant mound. Re-think your headline, please.” The fact that nobody did, nobody in the CBS News editorial staff had even that smidgen of integrity, well, that speaks for itself, doesn’t it?
