Katy Perry joked that an overexcited contestant might start a ‘mosh pit’ with Ryan Seacrest on Sunday during American Idol‘s selection of its Top 16.

Colin Jamieson, a 22-year-old wedding singer from Boxford, Massachusetts, was his usual ebullient self during the ABC show that cut eight remaining contestants.

While performing Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears, the former boy-band singer worked the stage and its cameras like a pro.

Katy, 36, and the other judges praised Colin’s performance, which showed off his pipes, too.

‘Surprise, surprise, puppy surprise, who knew you had those vocals inside?’ the 13-time Grammy nominee asked him. ‘You are an incredible vocalist, and I love watching you play to the camera.’

Show host Ryan, 46, was thrilled to encounter someone so peppy after facing his share of nervous and downright taciturn contestants throughout the show.

‘Yes! Yes!’ Ryan yelled at Colin joyously, as the two men fake-charged each other.

‘Oh my God, if you start a mosh pit with Ryan Seacrest the Internet will explode,’ Katy joked.

‘I can’t mosh in my loafers, I’ll fall,’ Ryan replied, telling Colin, ‘I don’t think you know where the snooze button is. You just wake up and go.’

He mimed throwing a pitch to Colin, who naturally pretended to hit it out of the park.

It was a rare light moment during the show, which saw last week’s top 24 performers whittled down to 16.

Viewers were then asked to vote again for their favorites, as the top 12 will be revealed on Monday with 10 chosen by voters and two by the judges.

The first contestant through was Alyssa Wray, a 19-year-old college student from Perryville, Kentucky, who crooned Roberta Flack’s Killing Me Softly With His Song.

‘You know what’s really endearing about you?’ judge Luke Bryan, 44, asked him. ‘You keep being the guy who can’t believe he’s here. [And] you’ve got this timeless voice.’
