Some of America’s favorite vehicles are struggling to display their speed.
Toyota issued a recall for 591,377 US vehicles due to a problem in the instrument panel.
The 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel doesn’t always show critical information, increasing the risk of a crash or injury, the country’s auto safety regulator said on Thursday.
Vehicle speed, brake system warnings, and tire pressure lights might not show because of an error in the software, the agency added. Some screens remained dark after the car turned on.
The recall covers several models including Toyota’s best-selling RAV4, Highlander, Grand Highlander, Camry, and Tacoma models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
It also covers some smaller-unit vehicles, like the sporty Corolla GR and the high-rolling Crown Signia. Three Lexus models are also included.
Toyota doesn’t currently have a fix — the company says it will smooth out the malfunction with a free programming update by December.
Public records show this is Toyota’s eighth recall this year.

Toyota’s RAV4, America’s third-best selling vehicle, was included in a recall over its gauge cluster. The popular SUV is getting a facelift for next year and will look like the picture above in 2026

Rarer vehicles, like the sport-oriented Corolla GR Hatch, are also included in the recall bulletin
