It has become a pattern over the years to see a journalist with a recognizable liberal bent depart from a conventional news outlet and become somehow MORE brazen in their leftism. In the latest example, we have Scott MacFarlane, the stentorian January 6 obsessive who recently departed CBS News, and he has come out with an announcement that is not at all surprising, but is certainly hilarious in its explanatory revelation.
MacFarlane, as noted, has been rather consumed with the events of January 6, constantly reporting on aspects that most people have long moved on from, or finding ways to work in a mention of that day in reports on other issues. Scott announced his departure from the network just under two weeks ago, only mentioning that gauzy opportunities were ahead for him. In trademarked fashion, his final report filed with the network concerned – what else – a plaque erected to honor that fateful date in MacFarlane’s career.

Well, Scott came out on Monday with an announcement about his fortunes. He worked out a deal to latch on with a new outlet, and it says oh so much about the foundational standards held by this journalist.

If you are not familiar with Meidas Touch, this is a hyper-leftist pro-Democrat outfit of the lowest order. If Rachel Maddow strikes someone as too close to the center, Meidas Touch is there for them. The outlet sprang out of a Democratic Party Super PAC, formed in 2020 to oppose Donald Trump, and then targeted other Republicans in subsequent elections. Think The Lincoln Project, absent the veil of quasi-conservatism. It was founded by three brothers; one was a producer for Ellen DeGeneres, and another served as the lawyer representing Colin Kaepernick.
To see MacFarlane land gleefully with this sourpatch hyper-partisan outlet is just too on-the-nose. But he follows a blueprint of sorts from other journalists like him, leaving national news divisions and striking out on their own, going on to become far less news reporters and far more social activists. These alleged professional journalists behave like a teenager left home while the parents are out on vacation, freed to behave in a fashion they have long wanted to let loose.
The list of these media pariahs who took an offramp from conventional outlets and cut the wheel hard to the Left is growing. Most notable — and most desperate — is probably Don Lemon. His infamous storming of a Minneapolis church was the low-water mark of his post-CNN “career,” but he was already displaying rather biased approaches to his coverage. Before she turned on the Republican Party and became a CNN darling, Marjorie Taylor Greene saw her office targeted by a group of activists, headed by the Lemon Head himself, in a completely neutered attempt at ambush journalism.

Lemon’s former workmate Jim Acosta, setting up his tent on Substack, has also been straining to generate traffic with audacious and decidedly Left-wing lurches. He staged a live news panel that was sparsely attended. In a disturbingly desperate stunt, he conducted an “interview” with the AI version of a Parkland Student killed eight years ago in that shooting. He recently hosted one of the Democratic Party’s anti-State of the Union rallies, adorned as he was in amphibian headgear. This is not a serious man.
There may be no better sign that you are at a serious, trenchant political gathering than seeing Jim @Acosta on stage in a frog hat.

Chuck Todd has extended his podcasting after the termination of his years at NBC News, now able to be not just aggressive but openly hostile towards the administration and Republicans. After his possibly drunken late-night tweet storm, Terry Moran was let go from ABC News, and he has been racing around any podcast that will have him to pimp his Leftist Substack. John Harwood has been nothing but an embittered, mostly rabid pro-Democrat figure since he was cast off on his own and has fallen in with Mehdi Hasan’s kennel of Leftists at Zeteo.
It says everything that, among those seen who have been jettisoned by networks and outlets, Chris Cillizza might very well be the most balanced of the lot. That is not to say he has moved closer to the center, but he has not raced to the political fenceline after being let go. At times, he may even deliver a critical comment over his Left shoulder, which is a stark difference from most of the other journalism gypsies.
What we are seeing is the manifestation of what has long been noticed in the news industry, and that is the bare liberal bias in the network apparatus. These journalists have long been recognized as partisan hacks, but they always tried to distract by using the glare off the veneer that their outlets are unbiased traffickers of the news.
But look at their behavior once set away on their own recognizance; they act like a terrier released from the leash and go tearing off to the Left-wing, leaving a roostertail in the process. It becomes clear that when under the canopy of a corporate news source, they are hemmed in, told not to make their bias so obvious, so a level of plausible deniability can be maintained.
Once left to their own devices, they all behave consistently in the same manner and let their liberal freak flag fly. When the next fired journalist exposes themself as a closeted MAGA devotee, (s)he will become the first to do so.
