Antonio Rudiger accuses Club World Cup opponent of racism as Real Madrid star is left fuming and referee activates new protocol

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger accused Pachuca player Gustavo Cabral of racially abusing him during Sunday’s Group H clash at the FIFA Club World Cup.

A visibly fuming Rudiger reacted to something Cabral said to him during an exchange of words in stoppage time of Madrid’s 3-1 win by raising a complaint to Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti Abel.

Abatti did not issue a card to Cabral as he had seemingly not heard anything untoward himself.

However, moments later the referee was seen crossing his arms to make FIFA’s ‘No Racism Gesture’, suggesting that the incident will be investigated further.

Madrid manager Xabi Alonso then said in his post-match press conference: ‘Racist insult against Rudiger? That’s what Rudiger said, and we believe him.

‘Now FIFA is investigating. It’s unacceptable.’

More to follow.
