Whenever a high-profile shooting pushes gun control back into the forefront of political discussion, conservatives usually ask liberals why they were so silent when hundreds of people a year were being shot and killed in cities like Chicago, St. Paul, and Baltimore. The standard liberal comeback as far as Chicago is concerned is that, yeah, Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, but the surrounding states don’t. All of the guns are purchased in Indiana and then brought into Chicago — so the obvious solution is to shut down gun sales in Indiana.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez probably thinks she’s the first person who’s thought of this argument.
AOC: “There’s no discussion about gun violence in Chicago without talking about Indiana, because the violence and the mothers that we have to comfort are losing children due to the guns and the carnage and the lawlessness unleashed by those states.” pic.twitter.com/4B7hXatqnx

“The guns and the carnage and the lawlessness unleashed by those states.” If guns are the problem, and lax gun laws are the problem, then you’d think Indiana would be the hotbed of gun violence that Chicago is. What happens to guns once they cross state lines?
Like Mogwai, taking a gun across the magical barrier between Indiana and Illinois turns guns from non-violent creatures to murderous ones. This line only exists at this point, however, since Indiana and other areas don’t suffer from gun gremlins. https://t.co/QbUhCmH8SK

How does anyone in Indiana manage to stay alive?

So where is all the carnage in Indiana?

Why isn’t Indiana immersed in crime like Chicago?
— Me (@Keefer1958) June 8, 2022
Well thank god the US doesn’t share a border with a violent country, so gun control here could totally work like it doesn’t in Illinois.

Always the inanimate object. The gun. The state. Never the individuals actually responsible.

I’m old enough to remember @aoc saying it’s better to be morally right than factually correct… she always proves herself.

She’s never comforted one mother in Chicago, I don’t think she’s ever been here before, but @chicagosmayor announced her reelection campaign last night, wonder if AOC received a phone call this morning.

I’m impressed. I would have bet she couldn’t name 5 or more states from memory. Oh wait it’s written down? Never mind.

Perhaps you could pass a law making it illegal to purchase a firearm across state lines without having it shipped to a local FFL where you get a background check.

This is completely made-up BS, per usual

Please strike everything after “There is no discussion about gun violence in Chicago.”

I have to still remember this woman was bartending 4 years ago.

48 shot, 9 dead in Chicago over the weekend but John Legend says it might be racist to talk about it https://t.co/IA7QKuptWF
