Aquaman 2's Post-Credits Scene Criticized by Filmgoers: 'Don't Even Bother'

This story contains spoilers for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The final chapter of the DCEU is now playing in movie theaters, capping off the DC timeline that first began with 2013’s Man of Steel. Serving as a direct sequel to the 2019 original, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom focuses heavily on the relationship between Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and his brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson. During the film, Arthur convinces Orm that cockroaches are considered to be a delicacy on land. This is called back to in the film’s only post-credits scene, which sees Orm on land eating a cheeseburger. The character can be seen placing a cockroach into the sandwich before digging in, suggesting he’s developed a taste for the insects.

Typically, post-credits scenes in superhero movies are used to tease future stories, even if a sequel hasn’t been confirmed by that point. Conversely, the Aquaman 2 scene is merely a reference to a fun moment from earlier in the film. That has some viewers feeling underwhelmed, suggesting that the DCEU should have ended with something much bigger. As one person on X said, presumably with sarcasm, “The last ever scene in the DCEU is a man eating a burger with a cockroach he put in, and enjoying it. What a high note to end on.”

“If you go see Aquaman 2 don’t even bother sitting through the end credit. It was dumb AF,” says someone else. Another disappointed fan said, “Aquaman 2 post credit was a joke. I wanted to see one of the justice league members one more time.” Meanwhile, another post reads, “DCEU fans forcing themselves to enjoy Aquaman 2. When the last scene of the dceu is orm eating a cockroach lmfao. Ya’ll need to demand BETTER from these comic book movies.”

It’s hard to say if this one post-credits scene was always the plan for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It could be speculated that there were originally plans to further tease more movies in the DCEU before James Gunn and Peter Safran boarded DC Studios to reboot DC’s movie slate. It should be noted that there have been reports of the film undergoing many reshoots, with a cameo from Ben Affleck’s Batman filmed at one point. With no plans to make any more films in the DCEU, however, other fans may actually feel that it’s for the best with Aquaman 2 having a much simpler post-credits scene.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now playing in theaters.
