It’s almost April, meaning it has been about three months since Archive 81 first premiered on Netflix. Despite that crazy cliffhanger at the end of the season, Netflix has yet to renew the science fiction series for another season. Unfortunately, Archive 81 season 2 will not be arriving on the streaming service in April 2022.

SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Archive 81 season 1.

Based on a successful podcast based on the same name, Archive 81 is a thrilling television series developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine. The first season focused on Mamoudou Athie‘s character Dan Turner, a video archivist assigned to fix some old tapes found in an apartment building called the Visser.

Throughout his work, Dan forges a connection to the star of the tapes, Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi). In the 90s, Melody visited the Visser to find her mother and, in the process, uncovers a terrifying cult with dark intentions.

At the end of the season, Dan and Melody connect through a portal that bridges the gap between time and space. While Melody is brought forward to the present, Dan is somehow transported to the past and awakens in 1994, just weeks after the Visser was destroyed in a fire.

Understandably, fans are eager to find out what will happen to the pair next!

Archive 81 season 2 release updates

Netflix has not announced a renewal for the show, but it seems likely that the series will get renewed since it did perform well for the streaming service. In fact, there is a good chance we’ll hear about the show’s status in April or May.

Per What’s On Netflix, Archive 81 season 1 was watched for 129.47 million hours during its first three weeks on the website. Those are pretty impressive numbers for a new show. Obviously, there is plenty more story to tell, so it would be strange if Netflix chose to cancel this one.

If Archive 81 season 2 is given the green light, we can probably anticipate it premiering sometime in 2023.
