Bo Nix’s wife has shared a heartbreaking behind-the-scenes picture of the Denver Broncos quarterback after learning his season had finished moments after the biggest win of his career.
Nix led the Broncos past the Buffalo Bills in Denver on Saturday in a 33-30 victory that saw Sean McDermott fired as head coach of the Bills.
But Nix’s day ended in disaster with the quarterback fracturing his right ankle on the penultimate play of the day.
He is now set for surgery, while No 2 quarterback Jarrett Stidham is gearing up for the AFC Championship game against New England Patriots – his first game of the season.
Izzy Nix, meanwhile, has since shared a picture from early Saturday evening showing Stidham gathered around a stricken Nix, who had his right leg outstretched.
‘I snuck this picture because I wanted to remember this moment forever,’ she wrote.

Nix’s wife, Izzy, paid tribute to her husband after receiving such devastating news
There were no major signs Nix was that badly hurt as he left the field after such a big win
‘The joy, followed by the heartbreak, followed by watching each teammate and coach come to this little corner and sit by Bo’s side.
‘God could have placed us anywhere, and I’m so grateful He chose Denver. He is the perfect Author of Bo’s story and we cannot wait to see what He has in store for this team – We’ll be on the front row, cheering the loudest!!!’
Broncos head coach Sean Payton had already spoken to the media about his team’s triumph when he learned about the fate of his main man.
It prompted him to return to the podium once again to deliver the barely-believable news that changed the shape of the NFL playoffs.
There were no obvious signs Nix had hurt himself so badly at the time. He walked off the field slowly but gave no indication that he was hurt to the extent that it would rule him out of the season.
The Patriots are now the strong favorites to defeat the Broncos in Denver on Sunday and reach their first Super Bowl since Tom Brady left the team in March 2020.
Awaiting them will be the winner of Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, who meet in Washington in Sunday’s late game.
Payton defiantly insisted that Stidham is ready to replace Nix at such a pivotal stage of the football season.
‘I’ve said this at the beginning of the season, I feel like I have a 2 that’s capable of starting for a handful of, a number of teams,’ Payton said. ‘I know he feels the same way. So watch out. Just watch.’
As for Nix, Payton added: ‘There will be a lot of emotions, and then the refocus takes place. We celebrate the season for him.’
