Brad Lander Ousts Dan Goldman – RedState

The polls had barely closed in New York before the race for the Democratic nomination for the 10th Congressional District was called.

Former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander has bested Rep. Dan Goldman — in decisive fashion. With 47 percent of the vote counted (as of this writing), Lander is up 63 percent to 37 percent.

Lander’s knock-out of two-term Rep. Goldman delivers one of the night’s biggest intraparty upsets. Lander, who enjoyed the backing of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), defeated Goldman in a race that became a proxy battle between the party’s progressive wing and its more establishment faction.

As Sister Toldjah noted just ahead of Tuesday’s primary:

One that hasn’t received as much media attention but which will also be interesting to see play out on Primary Day Tuesday is the one in the 10th Congressional District – “one of the most progressive and most Jewish districts in America” according to the New York Times – where former NYC comptroller and failed mayoral candidate Brad Lander (D) is challenging current Democrat congressman Dan Goldman, who is vying for a third term in office.

The issue of the Israel-Hamas war is front and center in this race. But though both the Mamdani-endorsed Lander and the Hochul-endorsed Goldman are Jewish, Goldman has tried to straddle the fence between being pro-Israel and appeasing its critics, while Lander has actually presented himself more or less as the anti-Israel candidate, who during a June campaign event last week promised to “join you in that fight to end occupation, and apartheid and genocide.”

Tuesday’s result is another sign of the growing influence of Mamdani and his allies as they seek to reshape New York’s congressional delegation ahead of the November midterms. With several closely watched House primaries on the ballot, Democrats were watching to see whether progressive challengers could build on the movement’s momentum — and in NY-10, they got their answer.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
