WALL – A Brielle man on an electric bike suffered serious injuries Tuesday after he collided with a Volkswagen at the intersection of Route 35 and Lakewood Road, according to police.
The crash happened about 3:51 p.m. as the bicyclist, 66, was going east on Lakewood Road and entered the intersection of the state highway, according to Wall police Capt. Chad Clark, a department spokesman.
The Volkswagen was being operated by a Toms River woman, 36, who was traveling south on Route 35, Clark said.

The identities of both individuals involved were not released on Tuesday night.
The bicyclist was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by the Wall Township Emergency Medical Services and paramedics from the Robert Wood Johnson Mobile Health Service where his injuries were serious, Clark said.
The Wall Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has any other pertinent information related to it, to contact Patrolman Megan Alexander or Clark at police headquarters at 732-449-4500. An investigation is underway, he said.
The South Wall Fire Department also responded to the scene to offer medical support.

The Emergency Response Team from the state Department of Transportation arrived to provide traffic safety support as investigators from the Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) processed the scene, Clark said.
Traffic was diverted from the site for about two hours after the crash, he said.
