Sunday’s episode of Britain’s Got Talent saw Simon Cowell use his golden buzzer on comedian Axel Blake, saying after the last couple of years, ‘we needed acts like you.’

They pointed out that Axel, 33, had already gained mainstream success, even having his own stand-up show on Amazon Prime.

Going straight through! Sunday’s episode of Britain’s Got Talent saw Simon Cowell use his golden buzzer on comedian Axel Blake, saying after the last couple of years, ‘we needed acts like you’

Many drew comparisons between Axel and last night’s golden buzzer act Loren Allred, who was already a famous singer that had been featured on the soundtrack of The Greatest Showman.

One person wrote: ‘I refuse to believe that the #BGT Golden Buzzers are real and spontaneous. Yesterday it was to someone who sang an actual song in Greatest Showman and has been in the music charts in the US. Tonight it’s a comedian who has a stand up show on Amazon Prime…’

Another echoed: ‘so last night there was a golden buzzer for a singer with a net worth of 2 million and a song in one of the biggest movies to ever exist and tonight’s golden buzzer was an award winning comedian who has an amazon prime show???? wtf is happening this series #BGT’.

Angry: But fans quickly noted that despite his day job, Axel already has a comedy special on streaming service Amazon Prime, which he performed at London's O2 Arena in 2018

And a third chimed in to say: ‘Apparently that comedian has already got a stand up show on Amazon Prime. Yet another wasted golden buzzer. It’s an absolute fix.’

However, several other fans took to social media to praise Axel for his performance and laud Simon’s decision to use his golden buzzer.

‘I do love a good comedian, Axel was pretty funny to be fair, had me laughing at every one of his jokes,’ complimented one viewer.

Another agreed, writing: ‘Axel deserved that golden buzzer, quality comedian!’

And a third said: ‘Well deserving of a golden buzzer Axel Blake proper funny guy with a great personality #BGT’.

It comes after it was revealed that Axel spent time in a youth offenders’ prison, which he credits as a ‘toxic and horrible’ experience that made him change his life around.

The dad-of-two explained to ListenNotes podcast that he fell in with the wrong crowd, and peer pressure led him to spending three months in jail.

He said: ‘It was heavy in the gang life. You don’t wanna be a p***k, you want pride and you want respect and it consumed me.

‘I was around the wrong kind of people, the wrong mentality, my mentality was poisoned. It eventually led to me going to prison when I was 18…19.’

‘The governor said to me, “You will be back.” I will never forget. I thought, “Never, never, never.”

‘It changed me as a person and it changed me for the better. It was very toxic in there. It’s a horrible place to be.’
