Busy Woolworths, Coles and a packed shopping centre is put on alert in Melbourne

Must Read

A long list of venues has been added to Victoria’s growing Covid exposure site list with Woolworths, Coles and an entire shopping centre all flagged by health authorities.

But despite the late-night public health alerts, there are some pleasing signs for locked down Victorian residents.

Of the 26 new locally acquired cases on Thursday – the highest daily total during the current outbreak – 92 per cent were already in isolation.

Acting chief health officer Professor Ben Cowie said it’s that ‘fundamental element’ that will determine how quickly Victorians can escape lockdown.

‘That reassures me that we’re going in the right direction … I’m feeling like we’re certainly winning the race,’ he said.

Among the latest venues flagged by the Victorian department of health are both Coles and Woolworths in Malvern, Melbourne’s southeast.

Anyone who attended Malvern Woolworths on July 18 from 10:20am to 10:50am must immediately get tested and self isolate until they receive a negative result, as it has now been declared a Tier 2 site.

It is the same story for shoppers at Malvern Coles who visited between 9:40am to 10:30am on the same day.

The entire Central Shopping Centre in Malvern is also considered a Tier 2 venue, for July 18, for anyone who attended from 10:20am to 10:50am.

They were not the only venues in the southeast to be flagged, with the iconic Prahran Market in South Yarra declared a Tier 1 exposure site for anyone who visited on July 17 between 9:40am to 11:15am.

A Tier 1 venue means those who attended the high-risk Covid hotspot must urgently get tested and quarantine for 14 days regardless of the result.

The same goes for anyone who visited the Market Lane Coffee in Prahran on the same day from 10:30am to 11:00am.
