CDC Director Out After 1 Month on the Job, Along With Several Other Resignations – RedState

Director Suan Monarez is out at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after just one month on the job. Following the announcement of her departure, several other resignations at the agency have been reported.

A post on X on Wednesday from the Official account of the Health and Human Services Department read that “Susan Monarez is no longer director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” after being sworn in by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on July 31.

“We thank her for her dedicated service to the American people,” it added. “@SecKennedy has full confidence in his team at @CDCgov who will continue to be vigilant in protecting Americans against infectious diseases at home and abroad.”

Monarez has since obtained legal counsel, attorneys Abbe Lowell and Mark Zaid.

By the end of the day, news spread that several others at the agency had reportedly turned in their resignations. Unclear at this time if the two are connected.

A Newshour reporter wrote:

NEW: Following the reports of Monarez’s departure as @CDCgov director, several other leaders have just submitted their resignations: Dan Hernigan, head of the National Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, and Deb Houry, the CDC’s chief medical officer. Unclear if related.

She followed up the post with a second that read:

“BREAKING: At least 3 CDC leaders have resigned tonight: Dan Jernigan, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases; Deb Houry, chief medical officer; and Demetre Daskalakis, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. Possibly more TK.”

It comes following an announcement by RFK Jr. earlier in the day, putting an end to the “emergency use authorizations for COVID vaccines,” RedState reported.

In a lengthy post on X on Wednesday, the HHS Secretary wrote out a list of the four things he wanted to accomplish on the job to right the wrongs when it comes to the vaccine.

“I promised four things: 1. to end COVID vaccine mandates. 2. to keep vaccines available to people who want them, especially the vulnerable,” RFK Jr. wrote. 3. to demand placebo-controlled trials from companies. 4. to end the emergency.”

He said with a series of FDA actions on Wednesday, he’s now done just that.

The emergency use authorizations for COVID vaccines, once used to justify broad mandates on the general public during the Biden administration, are now rescinded.

FDA has now issued marketing authorization for those at higher risk: Moderna (6+ months), Pfizer (5+), and Novavax (12+). These vaccines are available for all patients who choose them after consulting with their doctors. The American people demanded science, safety, and common sense. This framework delivers all three.”

The new actions are just the latest in the HHS Secretary’s promise to Make America Healthy Again, which President Donald Trump endorsed on the campaign trail and has followed up on since returning to office in January.
