Manchester United will face Atletico Madrid in the next round of the Champions League, after the second attempt at the last-16 draw gave them an equally tough tie.

The first bungled draw was sensationally voided by UEFA after a number of technical mistakes, meaning the red-faced officials were forced to repeat it at 2pm today.

And United were then paired with Atletico, the LaLiga champions, while the other Premier League clubs were again handed ties they will expect to progress from.

Ralf Rangnick’s side will play the deciding leg at Old Trafford, in what may be a major boost to their hopes of reaching the next round for the first time since 2019.

The club were inadvertently involved in the mix-up which led to the re-draw.

United and Villarreal were incorrectly drawn together, but were not allowed to be at this stage after facing each other in the group stage.

After, the tie was retracted and United drew out PSG.

However, they were not placed back into the correct bowl after the error, meaning they missed out on the chance to potentially take on Atletico.

Elsewhere, Manchester City will take on Sporting Lisbon, while Liverpool will head to Inter Milan.

Chelsea, the holders of the famous trophy, will face Lille, meanwhile – the only fixture to be a repeat of the initial one drawn earlier today before the result was chalked off.

Thomas Tuchel’s high-flying side will entertain the Ligue 1 side at home first.

Perhaps the most eye-catching tie of the round is Paris Saint-Germain’s clash against Real Madrid, with two heavyweights set to battle it out for a quarter-finals spot.

Red Bull Salzburg, meanwhile, face six-time winners Bayern Munich.

Benfica take on Ajax and Villarreal play Juventus in the final two fixtures.

The first matches of the last-16 ties will be played across Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16. The second batch are scheduled for a week later.

Then, the second legs will take place on Tuesday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 9. The second set will be staged on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16.

Later in that week, the draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be held.
