Christopher Reeve posthumously appeared in The Flash by way of CGI, but it’s a scene that the late actor’s own children still have not seen.
To promote the new documentary about their father, dubbed Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, Reeve’s children — Will, Matthew, and Alexandra — participated in a new interview with Variety. They were asked about Reeve’s digital appearance in The Flash, and all three shared that they had not actually watched the film, or any footage of the scene. Variety also noted that they were not personally involved with the cameo.
Jesse Eisenberg Roasts Himself With Lex Luthor Advice for Superman: Legacy Star
Former Lex Luthor actor Jesse Eisenberg pokes fun at himself with his advice for Superman: Legacy actor Nicholas Hoult.
The Superman cameo did not come without controversy, as some fans of Reeve found it inappropriate to put the deceased actor in the film, as he had no say in it. That goes back to the concept of featuring dead actors from the past in new projects by way of CGI, which has been a controversial topic for years. However, some fans of Reeve may have still been happy with the scene, seeing it as a fun acknowledgement of the beloved actor.
Nicolas Cage Has Questioned His Superman Cameo in The Flash
Another actor who was featured as Superman in the film with a CGI-assisted cameo was Nicolas Cage. This was in reference to the canceled Superman movie that Tim Burton was developing with Cage before the project was scrapped. Cage did actually film some footage for the movie to be used for his cameo, but he would later reveal that the scene was far unlike what he’d actually shot, admitting that he was perplexed by how his special appearance turned out.
Superman & Lois Season 4 Reunites Elizabeth Tulloch With Grimm Co-Star in an Unexpected Way
Elizabeth Tulloch reveals that she will reunite with former Grimm co-star David Giuntoli in the upcoming final season of The CW’s Superman & Lois.
“I’m not saying they used AI on the Superman thing. Maybe they did. I don’t know,” Cage said, per Wired. “Maybe it was just CGI, but whatever it was, that’s not what I did on the set. As much as I love [director] Andy [Muschietti] and [sister and film producer] Barbara [Muschietti] — and I do think they’re great —it’s still not what I was told to do on set.”
Of course, CGI cameos can never replace an actor, regardless of the intent behind it. For the fans who want to revisit the story of the real-life Christopher Reeve, they’ll want to check out the new documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. The film makes it world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it will also be seeking a distributor.
