“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it” might sound like just another well-worn American phrase, but it could have been the overall message the chief economic adviser at the White House who has the ear of the President of the United States put forth during a media appearance on Sunday.
Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Steve Miran appeared on ABC News’ “This Week” program to talk about a cornucopia of issues connected to the U.S, economy – past, present, and future.
What he had to say was so strikingly clear and user-friendly, it doesn’t require much gussying up with the usual breakdowns and explainer language. Just listen, as the man give it to viewers straight-up in the next two vldeos, seriously.
This brief master class of a clip is the best starting-point. Miran schools the boisterous critics of the just-signed One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), telling host George Stephanopoulos that they are missing the point completely on the economic mechanism at work:
.@SteveMiran on the Big Beautiful Bill: “What the people who predict big deficits don’t understand is that economic growth is going to SOAR in response to these policies … more investment means more income. More income means more tax revenue—and as a result, deficits go down.” pic.twitter.com/aZPFexSYoY

Then in this one, Miran chides those who said the same policies, including “historic tariffs” imposed on China, during the first Trump administration, would surely wreck the U.S. economy, when there was “astounding economic growth,” calling them out as “doom-mongers, fear-mongers.” Notice, also, the swiftness with which he corrects the host’s attempt to interject incorrect “facts” downplaying President Trump’s wins:
.@CEA47 Chairman @SteveMiran: “Lots of folks said that @POTUS‘ historic tariffs on China during the first term were going to be terrible for the economy. There was no lasting evidence of that whatsoever … and thus far again, this time, we’ve repeated the same performance.” pic.twitter.com/D9CnADAtI6

How satisfy is that, readers? My colleague Bob Hoge shared earlier on Sunday, in his own morning show piece, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, well, bashing CNN’s perpetually ill-prepared Dana Bash’s gotcha questions to smithereens.

Forgive me for repeating something I have probably said before in these pages, but it’s worth remarking how much of a difference there’s been in the surrogacy game from Trump 45 — whether that’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, or Bessent and Miran today. The president deserves kudos for picking people in this second administration who aren’t afraid to play hardball against the leftists’ prime offenders on their nonsense. No one can accuse any of these men of not doing their homework.
