Sir David Attenborough says he is “completely overwhelmed” as he thanked the public for their messages ahead of his 100th birthday.
The legendary broadcaster will spend his milestone birthday on Friday (8 May) with close family before attending a live event staged in his honour at the Royal Albert Hall.
In an audio message released on Thursday (7 May), Sir David said: “I had rather thought that I would celebrate my 100th birthday quietly, but it seems that many of you have had other ideas.”
He expressed his gratitude to everyone who has wished him a special day, from primary school children to care home residents.
“I wish those of you who have planned your own local events tomorrow a very happy day.”
