DHS and ICE Investigators Going Door to Door to Crack Down on Suspected Minneapolis Scammers – RedState

Department of Homeland Security investigators have begun going door-to-door in Minneapolis, cracking down on suspected scammers tied to an explosive childcare welfare scheme, the department confirmed in new videos.

Secretary Kristi Noem posted one such video on X, indicating that federal agents, including those from DHS and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), are hitting the streets to confront operators of so-called “ghost daycares”—empty facilities that have allegedly siphoned off massive sums through fraudulent claims.

“Homeland Security Investigations @ICEGov are on the ground in Minneapolis right now conducting a massive investigation (into) childcare and other rampant fraud,” Noem wrote.

The DHS Secretary indicated there will be “more coming.”

The brief clip shows a pair of HSI officers questioning a man about any subcontractors the facility might use for the transportation of children.

A video posted shortly thereafter on the official DHS X account shows the two agents questioning an individual inside a small retail shop.

“Are you guys associated with the business next door?” one investigator asks. “Do you know when the last time someone’s been there? It seems locked up and closed.”

The woman replies that she is “not sure” when she last saw somebody at the facility. It is unclear if they are discussing the daycare they had visited in the previous video.

Both interactions between authorities and those being questioned are cordial and polite. Neither clip amounts to anything nearly as questionable as that uncovered by independent videographer Nick Shirley.

Shirley produced an explosive video showing empty “daycare” facilities with misspelled signs, locked doors, and a noticeable lack of children despite millions in taxpayer funds flowing to them.

The 42-minute video—now viewed tens of millions of times—exposed multiple seemingly deserted childcare centers and healthcare providers, including Somali-linked facilities. And it comes on the heels of the Somali community being already embroiled in a fraud scandal that some observers contend has cost taxpayers as much as $9 billion. Some of these businesses have been accused of funneling millions of those fraudulently obtained funds to the terror group Al-Shabaab.

One facility that particularly raised the ire of viewers was a daycare with the misspelled sign “Quality Learing Center” which had nobody there despite being licensed to care for up to 99 children. That same center had received millions in federal taxpayer money over the past several years.

Another segment showed Shirley asking for rates at a building with several healthcare companies, only to be repeatedly refused any information on those rates.

As RedState Deputy Managing Editor Susie Moore wrote in her “Morning Minute,” there have been “rumblings” of fraud and abuse in Minnesota for some time, but “it was largely waved away as having nothing to do with (Governor Tim Walz) directly.”

“At some point, though, he’s not going to be able to sidestep the accountability. This mess is too big,” she writes. “And people are rightfully angry as they learn just how badly their hard-earned tax dollars have been squandered.”

The DHS posts seem to be an effort to quell that anger to some degree and to assure the public that something is being done amid the shocking fraud allegations swirling in parts of the North Star State. Claims that have put Walz (D) in an incredibly hot seat. The department wants the public to know they are on the ground, trying to hold those involved in the scandal accountable.

“The American people deserve answers on how their taxpayer money is being used and ARRESTS when abuse is found,” they state. “Under the leadership of [Secretary Noem], DHS is working to deliver results.”

Working to deliver results is no longer acceptable. Just deliver the damn results. In a just and right world, Walz would never survive this scandal from a political perspective. And some other high-ranking officials would also suffer a blow to their careers.
