How far is the left willing to go to lie to the public about federal immigration authorities? Apparently, they’re willing to go so far that Sen. Dick Durbin (IL-D) shared a fake AI-created photo of the Alex Pretti shooting on the Senate floor on Wednesday, alleging it was a depiction of the “last second” before he was killed.
Durbin, who is a top Democrat in the chamber, stated that his promotion of the picture was “graphic” but “necessary.” It shows a CBP officer standing behind Pretti, gun to the back of his head. Another officer is seen taking a knee. The problem? He’s missing his head, and that’s just one of the things that shows it’s AI and not a real representation of the scene.
Durbin can be seen putting the picture on a stand at 0:52 in the video he posted of his floor speech.

Numerous other elements of the picture are distorted and misshapen, leaving no doubt that it was created by AI. One of the biggest tells, though, is that the officer holding the gun isn’t even in the right position compared to the videos we have of the incident. Someone likely prompted whatever AI was used to “give me a picture of Alex Pretti being executed,” and this is what it spat out.
Was this a mistake? I find that very hard to believe. While Durbin is an old man who might fall for this, the staffers who took the time to find this AI photo and have it blown up onto a big piece of cardboard almost certainly knew what they were doing. As AI-created slop goes, this wasn’t even any good. It has more red flags than a Soviet parade.
Whatever one thinks about the moments that led up to the shooting of Pretti, we don’t need U.S. senators muddying the waters with fake garbage. Of course, that’s likely the point. Durbin and his staff, along with Democrats at large, don’t want to allow an actual investigation (which is happening) to take place before they set the narrative. It’s reminiscent of the “hands up, don’t shoot” claim from over a decade ago, which is still orthodoxy on the left to this day despite being thoroughly debunked.
The chaos is the point. Instead of trying to quell some of the unrest, Democrats are lying to their supporters to whip them into a further frenzy. Why? Because nothing matters to them other than procuring raw power by any means necessary.
